1) You need to get enough people involved so that someone can be paid
to do this as a job. Whatever space you pick, you need to keep it
occupied with talks, groups etc.

2) Scale, you need a large enough venue for these things to be
possible.

3) Outreach. You need to find groups that share similar interests, and
reach out to them. Whether to subrent space for their use, become
members of the group, etc.

If 300 people in seattle chip in $300-$400 / year, we can rent a large
space, and pay someone to help run and manage it. It may be we we use
911 Media Arts as a incubator.

Its the same damn problem with Techshop Seattle. Until someone
mentioned it, I didn't know they were trying to open up here. Every
organization needs to advertise.
