Nobody should say "should".

More precisely: since it's our policy to have a stable trunk, we can
use the trunk at any time - especially useful for bugfixes.

Since the merge spanned several days and was performed directly in the
trunk instead of in the branch, I expected that the first sets of
commits was the actual merge, reviewed it and used it.
