Hi,

Many people are complaining that the git repository access on
git.savannah.gnu.org are slow.

I'd like to propose a mechanism that
   1. makes things work faster for the users,
   2. reduces the load on git.savannah.gnu.org.

Namely, by use of *efficient* mirrors of the git repositories.

Find explanations, code, and how-to here:

Let me know what you think of it.

Savannah hackers: Please let me know whether there is a chance
to have the 'push-notify' program installed on savannah,
and the post-receive hook configured accordingly for selected
repositories,

Thanks for taking the time to do this,
and thanks for detailing alternative components,
and why you chose what you did, it's very informative.

The only point I'd make is, as much of this as possible
would be good to install on the existing savannah infra,
to ease maintenance, and make it more likely to be used,
thus reducing load on savannah infra.

thanks,
Padraig
