I found another data point on this problem of LXDE's panel shifting all windows in sawfish when it is used to select a window via the Task Bar.
In lxpanel's preferences dialog, on the "Advanced" tab there is a "Make window managers treat the panel as dock" check box. If I uncheck it then the panel gains a new entry in the Task Bar called "panel" (presumably the panel itself). Now if another entry in the Task Bar is clicked all windows *still* shift up but clicking on the "panel" entry shifts them all down again. It's a kludge work-around but more importantly maybe it indicate to the experts what is actually causing the shift in the first place. -Brett. -- Sawfish ML
