Thank you Igor.That's exactly the answer I was looking for and explains
everything. I knew there 'were' mixed roles, and that they were only
LAMPs, that's fine. Itwas just that I have had a few clients who only
wanted abasic LAMP.
It's no problem at all to create a new ones using Ubuntu 12.04form the
builder, it makes total sense as Sebastian advises and in fact I would
rather do so than use the older 10.04 ones for the very reason you have
deprecated them.

and other images/roles are launching ok, and yes, under hosted
Scalr. I have a couple of clients with this issue now. The
mixed role option appears to be greyed out for clients who
don't have their own self created mixed image roles in place,
and, if it is greyed out, and they create a mixed role then it
becomes accessible again, but only shows the roles they have
created themselves, not the Scalr provided mixed roles.
My own account is displaying this exact symptom. Happy to log
