Hi All, I want to personally thank Mike DeMars for spearheading getting at least some social meetings going again at Jimmy's in Sauk Rapids over the last year. On Saturday (Dec 6, 2008) we talked a little bit about getting some topic meetings going again. We also discussed when to have our next meeting, We have been meeting the first Saturday of the month, does another weekend work better? In January the first weekend ends up January 3rd being so close to New Years I suggested we skip the January meeting and plan for a topic in February on the 7th. Those in attendance seemed to agree. I am willing to help do the work, set up space arrange what is needed and so on if there is interest. We were thinking about a target of doing these meetings once a quarter to start out with. For a location, I am going to check on using a meeting room at the new St. Cloud Library. If there is a cost we will have to find other arrangements, several at the meeting offered up their homes for meetings also.
A few ideas I have so far that I could present or I am interested in are: Packaging Software (I can do Fedora/Red Hat/RPM if someone could do a .deb portion). Mixing Old Tech and New Tech (Ham Radio in it's second century). Package Management (Yum and Apt tricks and hints). MythTV on Fedora AKA How to fill a hard drive (Linux based PVR solutions). Asterisk (VoIP Phones). If you are not interested in topic meetings what are you interested in, or what do you want from the LUG? Those of us that have been around for a while do not know unless YOU tell us.
