skak 1.2 is too old, you need 1.4 or 1.4a. You can find it on CTAN (The Comprehensive TeX Archive Network (CTAN) is the primary repository for TeX-related software on the Internet http://www.tug.org/ctan.html) or http://sourceforge.net/projects/latex-skak/ or on a TeXLive CD/DVD. You could also acces the mentioned packages via http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/. Find the directories chessfs, chessboard and texmate.
