Hi,
I have re-registered you again. Let see again if you shall have any problem.
I take the opportunity to repeat again.
1) The old and first Forum was badly spammed. There were these categories of
spammers, which please note these were people with chess knowledge:
a) Some extreme fanatic friends of ChessBase and ChessAssistant
b) Some who run other large chess Fora or Chess web sites
c) Some who had problems with Shane when he was unable to send them the CD
promised.
I localised (through IP, etc.) some of them who were known people of chess on
the web. I do not wish to disclose who they were, since I do not want to open a
war. This is not in the spirit of educated people playing chess.
2) I found the Proboard Forum where I can register the SCID Forum members after
they ask for it sending me their e-mail. So they have to stay calm and respect
other members. The Forum front page at http://newscid.proboards29.com/ says:
To register you need to obtain a MEMBERSHIP ACCOUNT:
Please send an E-Mail to forumchess(at)hotmail.com [(at)[EMAIL PROTECTED]
The system will send you a temporary password, that you can change any time.
Your E-Mail remains hidden.
If you want to see how our SCID Forum looks like, kind of discussions, etc.,
please visit our old SCID Forum at
http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=8459
3) The Talkchess.com Forum is sponsored by commercial sites as the ChessUSA.
America's largest Chess Store, as they say.
I would actually change Forum if there was a better one, free and an
independent one from commercial interests.
Thanks and
Best Regards

Hi,
The problem is I was never able to use it. For example to retrieve a password
leads to this error :
An Error Has OccurredInvalid addModule call.
And account creation is not automatized, and being unsure, I did not want to
create (again) another account. I prefer forums easier to use like
Talkchess.com, Hiarcs forum, etc.

Hi,
The Forum is not down!! YOU need to register. Why? Many anti-SCID people
try to spam the Forum. This Forum initially was open and at
http://wwwactiveboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=8459
It had a lot of hits but a lot of spam. This old Forum is still open and
contains a lot of suggestions; even some of them wrote from Shane that time. If
you have problems with the new one http://newscid.proboards29.com/ please let
me know.
The advantage of this Forum in general is that if one has a question about
the use of SCID he can search for a reply. In this Forum there is also a link
to download the enhanced SCID-PG software (SCID from Pascal Georges).
Best Regards

Subject: [Scid-users] Do we need a Forum ?
Hello,
Once upon a time, there was a Scid forum :
http://newscid.proboards29.com/
It's now down. If I recall correctly the conversation I just had with
him, Pascal thinks it would be a good idea to have another one up. So my first
question is :
Do we need a forum ?
If we (I mean : you, of course) answer "yes" to that question, there
comes the mighty second question :
How do we proceed to create one ?
Having a forum may be yet another way to reach more people. As for
myself, I am not too hot about the idea. It often spells difficult to maintain
bloatwares and doomed communities ;-)
So I am not willing to push forward the idea since next Autumn. But if
we decide to have one, it certainly has some implications over the
documentation project. So I guess we should start talking about that.
Any take on this ?
G'day,
Benoit
