Playing CC, eh? ;)
I see your point, and my first glance at the code gives me
the idea that it's already "broken" in the Tournament
Finder. Actually, it is not really broken, one has to be
careful here, it's just from the point of view of OTB chess,
where an event does not last that long.

Dropping the date limitation entirely might run into
difficulties. E.g. I've a base where you find:
Event "BCF Ch"
Site "Hastings ENG"
Date "1953.??.??"
along with
Event "BCF Ch"
Site "Hastings ENG"
Date "1965.??.??"
Surely, you'd not want to have those two in the same
crosstable. (Similar for Linares, Dortmund, Corus...) A
clever approach is needed here, I think. At least dropping
the date limits entirely would most likely not work in
general. Probably, the most flexible solution would be a
"cross table for filter games", to have the option not to
select the games to consider by the tournament finder. And
avoiding the additional two values to be selected by the
user in the tournament finder.
I'm not sure, however, if this is really the best way. Plus
my first check told me that a solution to your problem is
not entirely straight forward fixed. (Maybe I missed
something here.)
