That's one of the problems that's being talked about teachers in pre 
to elementary schools.  Teacher's who just studied to get a degree in 
education, but didn't for a subject etc.  

I think he used books etc.  I've read stories written during the 18th 
and 19th even the 20th century where you had people being taught a 
language from books.  Now imagine what those people would have 
sounded liked speaking French or Spanish they learned form a book
