you're right on all counts, and I've voiced the same concerns, especially the clunky iTunes interface (no drag-and-drop) and the MP4 issue. But still, the overall package and functionality is still attractive for me to use it.
Now, i have thought long about getting a cheaper MP3 player that I can use to quickly and easily store songs without the iTunes hassle. But my main reason for that is that i want something cheaper to use during a jog or heavy workout, so that if i drop it or something i don't freak out -------------- Original message -------------- From: Bosco Bosco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: "what don't you like about iPods?" Since you asked: First and foremost, if I layout money for an MP3 Player, I want to be able to drag and drop what I want on to and off of the player. I do not want to have to use proprietary software to use the device. I definitely do not want the software to attempt to convert my library to another file format automatically. Additionally, any software that comes with the device should be super intuitive and easy to use. (If as an avid and well seasoned mp3 collector, I need a For Dummies book to use your MP3 software, it's a failure.) Additionally, the device should be smart enough to automatically sort my files in the file folders as they are arranged on my computer drive. I went to a lot of trouble to organize them. The device should be able to accomodate and understand a simple filing system automatically and display it back to me on screen. Also, the player should sync easily and readily with any purchasing site that I want to use rather than simply the manufacturer's site. Finally, battery replacement should be simple and affordable. I've got a fifty dollar one gig player that can do all these things. It lacks some of the more robust features of the I-pod but it has better basic functionality. The I-Pod has a lot of bells and whistles but it's basic functioning is utter and completely worthless. I might even be willing to overlook these issues with the I-Pod if the price were more reasonable and I did not suspect that the shortcomings were designed on purpose to keep my in financial servitude to the device's manufacturer. __________________________________________________________ Never miss a thing.
