It can cost up to six hundred bucks or more, according to Joyner, to have this
done. That's why I have mixed feelings about doing the stars.Regular people
would benefit more, but i guess famous people bring in the viewership. I know
people who've done some of this research on their own, but once the family
Bible, library, and census data fails, that's when the more intensivie
investigation (DNA, talking to sometimes reluctant white folk, etc.) comes in.
And hence, the cost. I mean, can you imagine you just driving to, say, South
Carolina, knocking on some white person's door and saying "Excuse me, but I
think I'm decided from your great-great grandpa Jebediah. I think he got my
great-great grandma pregnant and then denied it. Can i have a DNA sample to
confirm?"

Does Gates' team do any of this type of interviewing?

I want to know how I can get this done for myself and my family I
would love to know the full history and back story. I'm a firm
believer in knowing your past to have a brighter future. I thought the
Tom Joyner story was really deep and I hope he was able to clear his
uncles names.
