I saw it too. I think the show went through so many rewrites and writer changes that they lost the direction that they were going to follow in season one. There is a ton of stuff that hasn't been brought up since the first season like the cover of the comic books that Micah was reading. (it always foreshadowed something later in the show, but they never showed the monster) It all went off track when the writer's strike started.
One show that I have been enjoying lately is Fringe, but it too has been a bit inconsistent.
