Subject: Re: [scifinoir2] "Threshold" Marathon on SyFy Today

Keith, I've been trying *not* to watch, because I'm on something of a roll (stopping now only for a special e-mail delivery) and I don't want to be distracted. Otherwise, I'd be chin-deep in it, and lost in Gugino's eyes...

Another good marathon on SyFy, and again it's a canceled show. "Threshold" is being shown all day today. Don't remember how many of you saw it. On the surface it has a very familiar plot: the presence of aliens on Earth is discovered, government team tries to combat the threat through various methods.
Despite the possibly cliched topic--which has been handled badly by many shows--this show was a cut above. The writing was well done, and even cliched plots were handled by the impressive cast: Brent Spiner (getting a chance to show emotion)...the always reliable Charles S. Dutton...very talented Peter Dinklage as the womanizing genius...and my girl Carla Gugino, for my money, one of the coolest/toughest/sexiest actresses around, criminally underappreciated (I still miss "Karen Sisco!) Look at the production staff: David S. Goyer, Mike Sussman (Enteprise, Legend of the Seeker), even Brannon Braga--hey, he has skills if he stays away too much from writing and showrunning!
"Threshold" came out in the time when all the networks were back on their "let's try scifi again" kick. Other shows out in the same few years were "Surface", "Invasion", BSG, "Tru Calling",  etc. Some made it, some failed. I hate that this show didn't get the chance it deserved to grow.
