the current web technology clearly allows for responsive layouts ([1]; they
adjust towards the viewing device) and there have been some efforts in the
sphinx community towards supporting a responsive bootstrap based theme [2].

this is perhaps another of those topics that could be added to a future
sprint. will require some work to make it look not traditional bootstrap
but allowing for all the features.
