Hi everyone!
I gave a talk at PyConAU over the weekend about "modern" scientific
computing and big data analytics with Python. My grand plans included using
a complete Python 3-based stack for the demonstrations and tutorial
environment, and recommending that the audience migrate to Python 3 now.
When I sent in the talk abstract I hadn't fully appreciated that
scikit-learn isn't ported yet. This turned out to be the biggest piece
missing for us in an otherwise mostly workable Python 3 stack.
I recommended porting scikit-learn as a good opportunity for the
post-PyConAU sprints today and tomorrow, but I'm not there for them myself,
so I don't know if anything will happen. But I would like to help out where
I can. I see README-py3k.rst was created in July 2010. It would be great to
nail the port finally! Perhaps I could organise a sprint at the Melbourne
Python user group to help work on it.
I saw a tweet from Nelle about the Paris sprint, and I see that the py3k
port is the first topic in the list (although it's a long list). Shall I
wait until the dust settles after that week, or is there some part of the
porting effort you'd like help with before then, or to set the stage for it
so you can work on it more effectively then?
Best wishes,
Ed
