Heads up to anyone running opentrack events with high rpm motors.
I recently had a King Cobra clutch fail after 5k miles and two track events. The
organic material completely separated from the steel backing plate during an opentrack
event. I assumed it was a fluke failure. I then installed a Centerforce. It failed in
one, yes that's right.....one.... opentrack day with only 100 pre-track miles. Same
failure.......the organic material came off the backing plate of the clutch disc again
during the track event.
Apex Motorsports had Superior Friction of Santa Clara analyze the Centerforce failure.
Superior indicated it was due to excessive rpm. I spend quite a bit of time between
6k-7k and I up shift into 7.5k and even 8k. Superior Friction indicates that the King
Cobra and Center force disc materials are only good for 6500 rpm.
Superior Friction built me a Dual Kevlar clutch disc good for 20,000 rpm which offers
2x clutch life and higher friction performance. But most importantly.......it survived
my last track event on Monday.

P.S. Thanks again to Apex Motorsports for hooking me up with a Dual Kevlar disc
solution and for accomplishing all this on Saturday with less than 24 hours notice.
