I used to keep mine in the console bin, until I saw that thieves break into
the car just to get the key out of the console or glove box.

Keep it hidden somewhere. Get a second key (to backup the first one when it
inevitably breaks). Keep one in your toolbox that you take to the track.

Register with McGard. They can even send a new key out overnight - but only
if they have your current registration and address info is up-to-date.

If anybody ever finds an alternative to McGard - somebody who makes hardened
keys - let us all know. I bought a set of truly hardened locks & keys a
couple years ago for a car (since sold), but I don't know why they were
from.
