During the May Weekend 2001, the Border Gaitherin established itself as an
important event to attend in order to experience a rich variety of
traditional music from Scotland and the Borders.

For all ages and all levels of ability, the Gaitherin is opportunity to
learn from musicians superb performers who also have a reputation for
being able to pass on their skills in enjoyable workshop situations.

Kathryn Tickell (Northumbrian fiddle) and Chris Stout Fiddler's Bid
(Shetland Fiddle) head the list of tutors. Claire Mann, Tabache teaches
flute and whistle. Bodhran is taught by Mark McGuire, Deaf Shepherd and
Sridam Harrison. Finlay McDonald, young graduate of the RSAMD teaches both
highland and smallpipes. The dance tutor, John Sikorski is from the

The weekend is an exciting mix. Workshops morning and afternoon offer the
opportunity both to develop skills in your first instrument and to try
something new. Recitals by Gordon Mooney on Border pipes, Border Young
Fiddles (tutored by Jimmy Nagle of Jedburgh) and singers Elsa Lemaitre and
Pat Douglas highlight the strength of local music. Rousing ceilidh music
from the Small Hall Band and a concert featuring Kathryn Tickell, Chris
