Grub is a bootloader, like lilo and is the default
bootloader for mandrake. I'm assuming your getting the
rather unhelpful grub prompt rather than the usual
menu(s).

IMHO if you only have one partition and mandrake was
installed in a file on an msdos partition, you need to
boot dos and sys c: Don't quote me on this.!!!!!!
You can boot into windows by using a boot disk, im
assuming whats happened is that when mandrake
uninstalled it deleted all the files it needs, and for
some reason upset grub, or failed to remove it. and
now your left with an incomplete bootloader.
If you have the win98 boot disk then you should be
able to stick that in the drive boot from floppy and
load windows. If you can't load windows, check that
your c: is your c: and nothing bad has happened to it,
if windows complains about versions and gets huffy,
thats normal you need to sys c: first, and if that
fails you can run through the win98 installation
without changing any files, after it asks you to
reboot it will fix things, (In a round about kind of
way)

IIRC you can just delete the file it creates for the
fake partition. If this doesnt work can you let us
know for the install day since we will be using
mandrake in this way also.
