Having read most of the comments re ISDN and the like, I see no mention of Telepests Cable Modem. Am I being na�ve in thinking it would be a better option..?

Dunno if this influences your siting prefs. Ah yes , the clicking. My engineer warned me that the thing suffers from phantom clicks ( random clicks for no reason ). The damn thing always seemed to suffer them in the wee small hours , which was a bummer because it was sited right next to my bed and as i'm on call 24hrs i kept thinking it was one of our machines dialing me.
