I believe we were talking about the less fortunate amongst us who aren't in an area supplied by an forms of broadband ( cable or ADSL ). Personally i'm 60 miles North of Inverness , the choices are modems , ISDN or Satellite. Of those , modems are hampered by a bad line ( unreliable 14.4 connection even after two days of engineers working to fix the line ) , ISDN is conditional on the signal being strong enough from the exchange which is 4 miles away ( 50/50 apparently ) and Satellite access isn't here yet.
