to answer michaels querstion first, the error only happens when I copy a local file to the NFS mounted filesystem. I have now set up exports/nfs mounts on both servers and the problem exists on both machines.
> Are the buffers (rsize and wsize mount options) the same size on both > the client and the server? I can only see how to set the buffers for the mounted filesystems and cant find an option when exporting the filesystems which would make sense. I have been playing around with buffer sizes and found that on the server (which has more RAM, faster disks etc) and found that I had to reduce the rsize and wsize from 8192 (reccomended in man page) down to 4096 to copy files of ~ 48Mb ok. However on the other machine (my linux pc), reducing rsize/wsize to 2048 allowed me to copy a file of a few ~ 4Mb before and since then, it only creates a file of size 790528 before giving an error. Am I reaching some type of limit here? > Are you going through a firewall? Maybe that is set up to reject > fragmented packets. You're more likely to get packet fragmentation with > large transfers. > no, just 2 machines on the local network. > What are you considering small and large in terms of files that you can > copy and files that you can't? As you can see from above, it is varying sizes. With the r/wsize of 8192 max size if less than 200k. > > Hope that's some help, > Martin -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.lug.org.uk http://www.linuxportal.co.uk http://www.linuxjob.co.uk http://www.linuxshop.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------
