It would be nice if -e took precedence over escape and not the
other way around.

The way things are now, it's dangerous to set escape to a
non-ASCII character. Re-attach on a UTF-8 system and you're
fucked. If -e took precedence, you could at least re-attach with
-e whatever-character-is-a-single-byte-in-utf-8.
