I noticed this on a client's G5 which i think is also running 10.3.6. Also have Ghostscript 8 installed thru Fink/FinkCommander.
I found that quitting X11 and Aqua Scribus - and then opening AquaScribus did not report the error. AquaScribus is available in the Mac Downloads category at the Scribus website. Hope this helps!
