There is a secret hidden in plain view. If you have the fixings, such as gcc and cmake, on your system you too can compile from source. I may take a few tries until you get all the necessary bits and pieces downloaded with apt-get. The apt-get packaging system on Debian family distros is superior, but it is not essential to success. Mac users basically have BSD and with a little work they too can compile from source. It used to be easer in the old days (sigh) but it is still possible for most of us. See the previous thread about 1.3.3.12 and the final solution. -- John Culleton Resources for every author and publisher: http://wexfordpress.com/tex/shortlist.pdf http://wexfordpress.com/tex/packagers.pdf http://www.creativemindspress.com/newbiefaq.htm http://www.gropenassoc.com/TopLevelPages/reference%20desk.htm
