It does what was asked for here: Removes extra spaces. What you are asking for is "Remove extra spaces, except where there are two spaces between sentences". The hard part is to detect "between sentences". Otherwise you could amend my algoritm with a "replace all <period><space> with <period><em space>. But the sequence <period><space> may be present in other places than between sentences.
