With regard to the switch buttons, in DOTT you just had 2 images to the 
right of the inventory depicting each alternate character you could switch 
to. They are likely just verb's with images (or objects with images) 
assigned - much like how the inventory display is implemented.

The logic of handling switching between characters in other rooms should be 
simple enough. I'd imagine you'd just be able to keep whichever room you 
left the previous character in loaded and just grab the target character's 
room (getActorRoom) and then switch to it if it's not the current room.
