personally (like my opinion matters any), i think that jeff is the better of the two
bassists in ssdre (that have anything on tape), ive only heard joe play other's stuff,
so i dont have a decent impression of how good he really is, but he seems to be a
tight bassist...very good...but to me, nate seems too flashy and predictable, alot of
his lines, although really good, are repeditive, but he likes to play alot of notes.
jeff on the other hand, is just tight, his lines are really intricate and fit inside
the chords, rather than stick out and sound flashy...so i think jeff is the best, on
tape, so far...
on another note...in an interview i read with will, will mentions how people thought
that the drum parts in diary and lp2 were better than the ones in hiftbso...he brought
to light an issuse that is probably along the same lines as the argument here...in
diary and lp2, will's parts were really "flashy" (theres that word again), like a fill
every other bar, and a whole lot of extra, superlative stuff, that just seemed to
clutter. but to the general audience, this was good, and everyone was like, "this guy
rocks!" but to an experienced musician, (not saying i am, although, this is my
opinion), his parts in hiftbso, are much more impressive, because he has learned to
fit his parts with the music, rather than showing off...he said that he liked the
hiftbso parts better and thought that they were more impressive, and i do too....
i hope that all made sense...

mikie!
