Hey there SD Ruby. I realized belatedly that I hadn't invited you all
up to the workshop I'm giving at LA RubyConf this week. For those of
you lucky enough to not know me, I'm an SD Ruby alumnus, best known
for such award wining events as "New Relic buys free beer for
everybody" and "that time I Reply-To-All spammed the list with a job
application", ahh, good times.

So you should come up to Burbank and listen to Bjorn Freeman-Benson
and I yap about Rails performance this Friday. What's that? You want
me to sweeten the pot a bit? How about FREE!

Bjorn and I are making the treacherous journey down from New Relic
Development HQ in lovely Portland, we've got a classroom, a sample
app, and all day on Friday to chat about app performance. We'll be
using New Relic to show some data, but don't worry, we're both
engineers and it's not a sales pitch. In the past three years we have
grown our own little Rails app (rpm.newrelic.com) from less than 1,000
requests a minute to over 14,000 , and we've learned a number of
lessons the hard way.

This is going to be hands-on, so please bring your laptop and a
working Ruby development environment. We'll be using GitHub and
Heroku, so even better if you already are familiar and signed up for
those (you should be anyway). We will also be talking about general
performance tuning concepts and aren't afraid to talk specifics about
individual technologies. So if you have questions about your own app
or environment, bring 'em!

As I mentioned, the workshop itself is free. The conference isn't
(but it's a great conference and is worth going to). You can register
for just the workshop (or just the conference) if you don't feel up to
the whole gauntlet.

Then come here at 9am on Friday:
