To continue our series on new and cool things in the Agile world, we’re kicking off the year with a talk on #OpenCollaboration by Etienne deBruin, a local advocate of our growing tech community.
Open Allocation is a management style in which employees are given a high degree of freedom in choosing what projects to work on, and how to allocate their time. Google’s 20% time falls into this category, and GitHub <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GitHub> and Valve <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valve_Corporation>, are known for having such environments. Etienne introduced Open Collaboration at his company last year and they’ve been using it to self-organize with intriguing results. To find out more, join us Thursday January 8th at 6pm, at the offices of Mitchell International. Pizza and beer will be provided courtesy of VersionOne. Please RSVP to [email protected] if you plan to attend. ~ Open Allocation: The gateway to Self Organizing Teams ~ As a small team of 8 engineers at Monk Development, we could not have predicted the impact we would have on the rest of our company when we decided to base our software development process on Open Allocation. We turned into self organizing teams which broke through silos of functional disciplines with a vengeance. This talk takes you through how 2014 went down for us. ~ Bio ~ Etienne de Bruin lives in Alpine, California with his wife and 3 young children. Born a lover of people and programming, he is a transplant from South Africa with a Computer Science degree from Stellenbosch University. He is a Partner & CTO at Monk Development, Inc <http://www.monkdevelopment.com/>. where he created their CMS as a Service currently in use at thousands of churches across the world. More recently he founded 7CTOs <http://7ctos.com/> to build a community of CTOs focussed on technology innovation that helps cities thrive. The meeting will begin at 6pm at Mitchell International on Greenwich Drive.
