Title: Software Engineer – *Ruby on Rails Developer* Department: IT Software Development Location: San Diego I am looking for a Ruby on Rails developer with an excitement for development and building top-notch software solutions. Being part of the core technology team, you will be working closely with staff to plan, build and deliver the industries leading technology applications. What you will do • Be a core member of our Ruby on Rails development team taking features from conception to completion. • Work with staff to translate technical requests into formalized product features. • Work both independently and as a highly functional part of our core Ruby on Rails development team • Open to coaching and mentoring other members of the software development team. What we are looking for • Have 5+ years of web development experience including strong skills in Ruby on Rails (4+), JavaScript/jQuery/CoffeeScript, JSON, HTML, and CSS/Sass. • Proficient with Linux environments. • Proficient with SQL databases. • Experience writing web applications that are secure and scalable. • Experience with responsible test-first/behavior-driven development practices in a framework such as Test::Unit or RSpec. • Experience with cloud-based service platforms such as Heroku and Amazon Web Services. • Experience developing responsive web applications. • Adept with tools such as Github and Pivotal Tracker. • Expert at interacting with non-technical folks. • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. • Comfortable working collaboratively with distributed teams. • Deep appreciation for beautiful code and elegant technical solutions. • Thrive in a fast-paced, agile development environment where bloated technical specifications are replaced with rapid iterations and a heavy emphasis on fantastic communication skills. • Recognize there is no limit to the number of hats we wear here every day, and sometimes they won’t match your outfit. Preferred Skills/Experience: • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline. • Hands-on experience writing and consuming RESTful APIs. • Experience with PostgreSQL. • Contribute to open source projects and participate in technical communities. • Experience with responsive front-end frameworks such as Twitter Bootstrap or Zurb Foundation. • Experience with Redis and Sidekiq. • Experience automating deployment to a distributed architecture with tools such as Capistrano or Chef. • Experience with distributing multimedia/video via content delivery networks.
