[AI] Differently-abled miss appointment with Manmohan
Differently-abled miss appointment with Manmohan Raktima Bose KOLKATA: More than 2,000 differently-abled persons travelling by a special train from Howrah to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister on Tuesday missed the appointment after the train got delayed by more than 10 hours. They had planned to submit a 17-point charter of demands. The trip was organised by Paschim Banga Rajya Pratibandhi Sammilani and West Bengal's Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs Kanti Ganguly, who is also the president of the organisation. The Minister was also travelling with the group. Speaking to The Hindu over phone from Delhi, Mr. Ganguly alleged that ten persons had fallen ill and had to hospitalised as there was no water or electricity in the coaches. The train that left Howrah on Sunday night was scheduled to arrive in New Delhi at Monday midnight. Instead it got delayed for almost over 10 hours due to unknown reasons and reached the destination only on Tuesday afternoon. This resulted in missing the appointment fixed up with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, he said. Mr. Ganguly alleged that repeated requests to railway officials for help at various stations en route fell on deaf ears. Calling it an inhuman torture on the differently-abled persons, he said he would write to the Prime Minister about the incident and also seek compensation from the Railways. Asked if he would seek Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee's intervention, Mr. Ganguly replied in the negative, saying she never gives importance to such issues. Meanwhile, the Eastern Railway authorities here said the train started journey with adequate water and there was no problem of electricity either though they did not deny that the train got delayed. [AI] Volunteers required for hindi translation
Dear Access Indians, Inclusiveplanet.com is looking for volunteers to translate the site into Hindi. I am sure everyone would have heard of Inclusive Planet by now, but for those who haven't its an online platform for the visually impaired to share accessible content and solutions. They realised that language was becoming a barrier for some of our friends to enjoy the site, and have embarked upon this translation project. Could I request those people who have a good command over hindi to help the team translate the site from English into Hindi. Along with the help of volunteers they have already launched the site in turkish, spanish and arabic. They are looking forward to complete the translation at the earliest, so that they can launch the Hindi version soon. I hope some volunteers will come forward. Everyone who is interested, please send an e-mail to Janani at janani.bar...@inclusiveplanet.com or you can also get in touch with me, I shall in turn ask them to get in touch with you. Hope you can spare some of your time for this worthwhile cause! Regards, Abdul To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. I feel that N97 Mini is not a good handset, first thing, there is no memory card slot though has very good internal memory, secondly the touch screen is not that responsive, thirdly the qwerty keyboard is bit clumsy to feel the keys, forth and the last there are many good phone available in the same range and with great features and better touch response. -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of mukesh jain Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2010 2:23 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] pls suggest a good mobile hello, recently even i am planning to buy new mobile phone and i would like to go for n97 mini handset. but i want to know does talks software supports this phone as it is not given in the list prepared by the talks manufacturer in the compatible mobiles. if anyone on the list using this handset requesting you to please share their experience. thanks, regards, mukesh jain. [AI] FW: Facebook turns off its light
Here is the answer to a question from someone as to what had happened to FB light. Taken from CNET. Subramani -Original Message- From: Subramani [mailto:l.subram...@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, April 21, 2010 6:32 PM To: Subramani L Subject: Facebook turns off its light There was a lot of chatter about Facebook Lite, a stripped-down version of the social network's profiles and home page, when it stumbled out of the gate last summer http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10308076-36.html and was widely interpreted as a hit on Twitter http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10189959-36.html . Facebook pitched it as a test for countries where we are seeing lots of new users coming to Facebook for the first time and are looking to start off with a more simple experience. Facebook confirmed Tuesday on its official fan page that it's ending the Facebook Lite project http://www.facebook.com/facebook#!/facebook?v=wallstory_fbid=110629035 639137 . We're no longer supporting it, but learned a lot from the test of a slimmed-down site, a short message read. If you used Lite, you'll now be taken to the main Facebook.com site. There's been no further explanation. Perhaps usage of Lite was lower than expected in those test markets, or perhaps usage of Lite was higher than expected, deflecting attention from the third-party apps, heavier advertisements, and other features that were pared-down or absent--and yet are the ones that boost Facebook's revenue. The company has never been hesitant to do away with unpopular or defective features, axing the likes of its maligned Beacon advertising program, a polls product that may be turned into a QA feature soon http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-20002607-36.html , and its classified ads system http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-10185534-36.html . Meanwhile, it's been announcing some more complex new features in advance of its F8 developer conference--like Community Pages, which are user-edited discussion hubs http://news.cnet.com/8301-13577_3-20002843-36.html that look to be in the same vein as Wikipedia. agree with shalini mam, pm should give another chanse to listen us. On 4/21/10, Asudani, Rajesh rajeshasud...@rbi.org.in wrote: Differently-abled miss appointment with Manmohan Raktima Bose KOLKATA: More than 2,000 differently-abled persons travelling by a special train from Howrah to New Delhi to meet the Prime Minister on Tuesday missed the appointment after the train got delayed by more than 10 hours.
