Can't Start TSM Server 5.3 on AIX 5.1
Hello TSM'ers: Following the upgrade of our server to TSM 5.3, it is not coming up, complaining that all sessions, including administrative, are disabled. The SERVER_CONSOLE admin id does not have sufficient privileges to re-enable the sessions. Has anyone experienced a similar problem and is there a way out? IBM is claiming that it's pretty much impossible to do anything at this point, short of restoring the database to an earlier version (we still have a backup of the server prior to the upgrade). I would appreciate anyone's assistance. Here is a work around. You can set up an admin schedule to run on that specific day. You are going to have three admin schedules. 1. The first schedule is to change the verdelet, verexist, retextra, and retonly to 1. 2. Run expire inventory. Keep in mind that expire inventory is very CPU intensive. If there are a lot of files to be expire, the users will notice a drop in performance on the system. 3. The last schedul change the verdelet, verexist, retextra and retonly back to what the values were. Most of out NT servers that we are looking to install TSM 4.1 on, do not have the updated windows installer. As a result, it requires an additional re-boot prior to installing TSM. Has anyone been successful in scripting the installation for SMS and getting around any re-boots? If you would be willng to share your ideas, I would greatly appreciate it. Re: TSM 4.1.2 for Windows NT - ERROR
Yes it is. This seems to suggest that there are duplicate include/exclude statements, but there are none, as far as I can tell. -Original Message- From: Joel Fuhrman [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, January 04, 2001 3:03 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: TSM 4.1.2 for Windows NT - ERROR Is a client Optionset defined for this node on the server? Re: Archiving and database growth
Terry, I've had similar experience trying the "export node" command - only 1 node can be exported to a single tape. Arthur. -Original Message- From: Barth, Terry (MBS) [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2000 7:58 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Archiving and database growth Hello fellow *SMrs: I am beginning to implement the archiving feature, as the backupset just wastes too much tape, as from what I have tested, only 1 node goes to 1 tape. If I am wrong, please tell me Anyway, we have the need to store files for legal reasons for a large amount of time - ex: 5 years, 7 years, etc. - Therefore, my only solution as to not waste so many tapes, because I have 250 + servers that I am dealing with, I was going to implement archiving. Therefore, I was wondering if anyone knows the impact that archiving has on the size of the database? I am concerned about the archiving feature growing my database tremendously. Thanks Terry
TSM Server 3.7.3 running on AIX 4.3.3
Hello all, Our TSM 3.7.3 server is currently running on AIX 4.3.2.0 A couple of questions: 1. Does anyone know of any issues/problems with running a TSM server 3.7.3 on AIX version 4.3.3? 2. Is there a limit to the number of processors that a TSM 3.7.3 (or TSM V4) server can utilize running on AIX 4.3.3? I had heard that the limit is 2. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Arthur Kleynerman NYC
Re: Missed backups on Windows NT
you need to check the permissions on the E_Drive... -Original Message- From: Thomas Denier [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, November 01, 2000 4:59 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Missed backups on Windows NT We have a Windows NT client with C, D, and E drives. The central scheduler requests an incremental backup every night. The schedule has a null object list. We recently discovered that the E disk had not been backed up in several months. The system administrator and I logged in an attempt to discover the reason for this. There was nothing in the options file calling for backups to skip the E drive. There were no messages in the log files indicating that ADSM had been trying to backup the E drive and suffered errors. The GUI client listed all three drives and had no apparent difficulty backing up the E drive. The administrator did notice one oddity. The E drive no longer had the default share normally defined for drives on Windows NT systems. He was sure that the drive had once had such a default share, but could set only broad limits on the time at which the default share was removed (the person who probably removed the default share no longer works here). The date at which backups of the E drive stopped falls within these limits. Does the command line client need the default share to recognize drives as candidates for backup? The client OS level is 4.0. The ADSM client level is 3.1.0.6.
ANR0540W - Data Integrity Error
Hello everyone, I am getting the following error on our TSM (version 3) server, when an NT client tries a restore: 08/01/2000 10:49:35 ANRD smnqr.c(1265): Bitfile 198748526 not found for retrieval. 08/01/2000 10:49:35 ANR0540W Retrieve or restore failed for session 38941 for node SUTTONM (WinNT) - data integrity error detected. Has anyone else seen an error like this one and does anyone know what needs to be done to fix this? I was thinking of running the "dsmserv auditdb" command, but I do not know how long this might take (we have a 32 GB database that is about 75% utilized). Any thoughts/comments would be appreciated!!! Thanks in advance, Arthur Kleynerman.
