Re: TSM 6.2 server AIX installation issue

2010-06-23 Thread Baker, Jane
I have installed 6.2 on AIX 6.1 in the last few days, fine onto two
difference servers, I haven't seen that issue. Have you had anything
useful back from IBM??

This is a Friday afternoon, just about to go home guess:

If your AIX box doesn't have the X11 libraries installed, (for example
if
it is headless), you may need SWING, which needs AWT, which comes in one
of the X11 filesets.

If installing X11 filesets resolves the issue, then the install doc
would
likely need to be revised to include X11 filesets must be installed.

Thanks,

Stef,

Thanks for the suggestion. The iocp has been enable and it is available but
still installation failed with same error (SEVERE : Aborting installer: Content
is not allowed in prolog. )

It is unbelievable to see no improvement on the installation of the pkg after
almost a year since 6.1 release.

I don't know how it is possible that a good product likt TSM 5 (and before) can
be changed in a monster like TSM6.

TSM 5.5:
du -ms /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmserv
20.03 /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin/dsmserv

TSM 6.1:
du -ms /opt/tivoli/tsm
2118.44 /opt/tivoli/tsm

Euh, from 20MB to 2 GB ???

I can understand the need to 'upgrade' the database to db2, but if this also
means the it is almost impossible to debug the installation process, the
upgrade process, the initialization process and the daily problems, give me
back the old non-db2 backend !!!

Funny, I just checked my running TSM 6.1.3.1 server and iocp is 'Defined'. So
why do I need to install iocp if it is not needed ?

Just to correct: first you did an du -ms of an executable and for TSM6 a du -ms

As Grigor posted, the TSM server itself is not much bigger:

TSM 6.1:

du -ms /opt/tivoli
1791.64 /opt/tivoli

du -ms /opt/tivoli/tsm/server
199.96 /opt/tivoli/tsm/server

TSM 5.5:

du -ms /usr/tivoli/tsm/server
92.44 /usr/tivoli/tsm/server

And I don't care that the software is 1791 MB. As long as it gives me enough
debug information and not 'tcp connecion denied' when the TSM db2 backups
fails because there is a filesystem full.
