Re: Ad Parameter feature requests

2013-03-15 Thread John Lister
Hi Danial, thanks for passing that on to the dev team. It occurred to me
while upgrading my sitelink code to the new feeds that these would be ideal
for handling parameters. They seem to be designed to do exactly what the
params require :) You may need to add a CriteriaFeedService to replicate
current behavior and an AdFeedService would be useful as well.

Just a thought

John

I strongly second all of these requests, particularly #3 (default Param
values at the Ad or AdGroup)!

Ad Parameter feature requests

2013-03-03 Thread John Lister
HI, probably too late for the (hopefully) soon released API next version,
but I have a few feature requests for the parameter side of the api which
would be great to see in a new release, I'll be honest and while most of
the API is great, it does feel like the parameters were tagged on last
minute.. Anyway I digress, the features:

- Ability to have partial failures for mutate operations - I know that
parameters are probably less like to fail than other types of operation,
but things happen and it would be nice to not retry the whole list of
operations for a mistake - current the main problem I have and strictly
speaking it is a human issue is deleted keywords not getting propagated to
my local db when made by rogue users on the web interface, but I guess
other things such as illegal values could creep in there.
- Ability to do bulk jobs with parameters, would be great to fire these off
in the background and just grab the results
- Ability to have a default value for a group/ad and not specify a param
for each keyword

As you can see the big problem for me is dealing with a large number of
parameter updates, I can't see a simpler way around it when you have 10s
(close to a 100) of thousands of "products" in your campaigns and the
associated million or so keywords. Trying to push through parameter changes
seems to be a slow process compared to the elegant nature of other updates,
especially as you easily hit "Rate Exceeded" errors if you are not careful

Thanks and continue the great work

John
