Re: [AFMUG] Shielded Cat6 connectors

2017-06-27 Thread Sterling Jacobson
I use Cat6 EZ-RJ45 stuff all the time.

This is what I ordered:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00939KFOU/

I'm getting to the point where I can't see fine writing close, or wiring in
semi-dark like I used to.

Yes, these Platinum connectors are those. We had used the Platinum Cat5e
connectors and really like the push through feature. The part number
listed below is a Cat 6/6a design that also allows for this, but a different
crimper is required. That is the other part number. We are pretty hopeful
these work better than the loading bar and non push through design.

Funny, but this is the exact path we are following as well. We tried the
Quiktrex connectors and they were a disaster. The loading bar is far too
messy to deal with in any where but a controlled environment. Trying to
crimp at the top of a grainleg or tower, or even at the bottom in low lighting
or tight spaces is very time consuming and fraught with errors.

We spoke with Platinum and have just ordered the following two parts:
100061C - New crimper with new die
202048J - New Cat6 ends that will accommodate Cat6a as I understand it.
These are not shielded ends, but from talking with Platinum, the same end will
be available in shielded in a few weeks.

I quit using those years ago, always had problems getting the tab to lock

Re: [AFMUG] Shielded Cat6 connectors

2017-06-27 Thread David Coudron
We are struggling with the same issue. We can do the push through Cat 5e
connectors pretty quickly and with virtually no errors, even without the
glasses. However the Cat 6/6a connectors without the push through feature and
with the loading bar were a nightmare. Lots of cussing, lots of retries, lots
of new ends needed and definitely needed the glasses/cheaters. Once we found
that Platinum had the push through on the non-shielded Cat 6/6a and was going
to be hitting the street with the shielded soon, we made the decision to use
non-shielded for now, and re-terminate when the shielded are ready. Overall,
we will spend significantly less time with that approach.

Re: [AFMUG] Shielded Cat6 connectors

2017-06-27 Thread Chuck McCown
Does anyone make CAT6 plugs where the wire goes clear through. Cannot
remember what that is called.

Funny, but this is the exact path we are following as well. We tried the
Quiktrex connectors and they were a disaster. The loading bar is far too
messy to deal with in any where but a controlled environment. Trying to
crimp at the top of a grainleg or tower, or even at the bottom in low
lighting or tight spaces is very time consuming and fraught with errors.

We spoke with Platinum and have just ordered the following two parts:
100061C - New crimper with new die
202048J - New Cat6 ends that will accommodate Cat6a as I understand it.
These are not shielded ends, but from talking with Platinum, the same end
will be available in shielded in a few weeks.

Lol. I had exactly the same discovery, opinion of the results and

The Shireen connectors you suggested will crimp with standard
crimpers, BUT, the shield will be crushed where a normal crimper would
set the strain relief (Shireen tells me this is fine, but it doesn't
look great).

We do have Mimosa equipment installed with Cat5e cable and it works
fine now. We initially had issues with the Ethernet ports dropping

I bought some Shireen Cat6 to try. The OD of the insulation on the
Shireen Cat6 (and other Cat6 cables I've found so far) make it
unusable with the EZ-RJ45 plugs. So, I ended up purchasing new
plugs, and should have purchased a new crimper.

I later asked here about using Cat6 with Mimosa and got a fairly
resounding "Cat5e is enough" at the time. In the end, it seemed
like a giant pain for any spot other than having great interference.

We recently received a recommendation from Mimosa to replace our

they have a Cat 6 product. What would you use? Has anyone had
problems with using Cat 5 with Mimosa?

Re: [AFMUG] Shielded Cat6 connectors

2017-06-12 Thread Jerry Head

Regular crimpers worked for us on these heads.

know if these connectors require a special crimper or can we use what
we already have?

of the tower we ordered pre-terminated cables. Just too much hassle
for the cost. For those where we had to run cable to the top we
ordered new quiktex ends since they use the regular old crimpers. We
couldn't find any ends to work with our Ez rj45 crimper. We will be
terminating those cables the next few days.

We do have Mimosa equipment installed with Cat5e cable and it works
fine now. We initially had issues with the Ethernet ports dropping
and replaced POEs and were considering recabling. However fixing the
RF link interference issues and some firmware upgrades have really
stabilized those Ethernet ports now. We haven't had an Ethernet
port go down in 10 months since we did that work. (I am currently
knocking on wood. )
