To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95000 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 28 06:28:50 + 2008 --- That forum thread describes that this problem is caused when the user enters a name (in User Data) that contains a comma. So the steps to reproduce the problem are: 1) Tools > Options > OO.org > User Data > Last Name Enter a last name containing a comma: Smith,J 2) File > Open an existing file 3) Change the file content 4) File > Save Instead of OOo saving the edited file at this point, an error dialog window appears: "Error saving the document docname: Object not accessible. The object cannot be accessed due to insufficient user rights." It is possible to File > Save As and save under a different name, but it is not possible to save to the new name a second time. If I close the file (discard the edits) and then open either of the files (the original, or the new name I saved to), the file is opened read-only. If I exit OOo at this point, the lock files for the opened files (.~lock.*#) are not removed. Because the lock files are not removed, even changing the user data to remove the comma will not release the locked files: the lock files have to be removed manually. This problem has been seen on both Windows and Linux. Please consider reopening this issue with a high priority. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [installation-issues] [Issue 89097] Skip MS files association
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89097 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Oct 28 04:28:04 + 2008 --- Giving users the option to change the MS file associations to point to Open Office is a must. I certainly know how to recreate a few associations, but for many of the clients and friends I work with who could gain from switching to Open Office, a smooth transition is of paramount importance. I don't believe it needs to be in the setup wizard, but after the install, there should be some option to change the associations quickly and easily. As an example, I have one friend who has been using MS Office for years. A recent malware problem caused her installed copy of MS Office to be corrupted including the registered file extensions (and of course she does not have the original install CD's). After getting her computer cleaned, I suggested Open Office. After the install, her first comment was, "Why can't I double-click on my files to open them anymore?" :) She was seriously considering running out to buy a new copy of MS Office right then. I guess what I'm trying to say is that if we want people to switch, we have to make things as simple and clear as possible, even the "small stuff" that may not seem all that important. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. The scripting/source/provider/URIHelper.cxx in its current state can't cope with the fact, that there are two different root directories. The admin-mode install works fine in such cases (most of the time), as admin accounts usually have shorter names without such chars. [sw-issues] [Issue 95512] Inconsistency with the new "separator" system for outline numbering
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95512 Issue #|95512 Summary|Inconsistency with the new "separator" system for outl |ine numbering Component|Word processor Version|OOo 3.0 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|All Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|formatting Assigned to|mru Reported by|rgb --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Oct 27 20:19:50 + 2008 --- OOo 3 added the capability to use a "separator" between numbering and paragraph in Tools → Outline numbering → Position tab. There, it is possible to select "Tab stop" (the default), a space or "nothing" for "Numbering followed by". The passage from one system to the other gave birth to some new problems: 1- Documents created on a prior OOo version will not be "converted" to the new system. i.e.: a document created on OOo 2.x will not give you the chance to select a tab stop separator and the dialogue in Tools → Outline numbering → Position tab will be the same as in old OOo versions. 2- If in a new document you activate in Tools → Options → OpenOffice.org Writer → Compatibility the option: "use OpenOffice.org 1.1 tabstop formatting", no matter which alignment you choose for your heading paragraph, it will be left aligned if you have a tab stop as the number/text separator. This behaviour is shown in the attachment and disappear if you either change the separator from tab stop to any other option or if you disable the compatibility option. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'm a novelist, and it's massively frustrating to be forced to compose sentences and paragraphs continually broken up by large margins and footers/headers. It makes me lose the flow of the work. I can't understand why this issue hasn't been fixed yet, given that it appears it's been brought to their attention since 2002. How hard can this possibly be? Every other word processor I've ever seen (and I'm talking about twenty YEARS of word processors) has managed some sort of draft/normal view functionality. It seems just about as basic to me as word wrap. What gives? Could we at least get a firm target of when it might be implemented? To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=95507 Issue #|95507 Summary|Note falsely seems editable from master document Component|Word processor Version|OOO300m9 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Windows Vista Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P2 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|mru Reported by|tjfrazier --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Oct 27 18:22:05 + 2008 --- Given: a master document, and a sub-document with a note in it. When working in the master document, the text of the sub-document is read-only. Writer ignores, or rejects with an error message, any editing attempt. Expected: Text within a note in the sub-document should behave the same way. Actual: Note text can be edited, and the operation sets the "changed" flag on the master document. However, the changes are not saved by a "Save" operation (nor should they be), and disappear when the master document is closed. This bug meets the technical requirement for "P2, data loss" status, though it results from a user error. To see the problem from the (pending) attachment: 1) Unzip the file (Windows compressed folder) so that the two files, MastNote.odm and SubNote.odt, end up in the same directory. 2) Open MastNote.odm. Depending on the Tools>Options setting for updating links, you may need to answer "Yes" to the "Update all links?" question, or update the link manually (right-click the link in the Navigator pane, and select Update>All links; answer "Yes" to question) before the text appears. 3) The change flag is set on the master document. Click Save to reset it. 4) Edit the text in the note. Observe that the editing seems to work, and the change flag is set. 5) Save and close. 6) Reopen. Changes are gone. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Nevertheless, my work shifted to ODF OASIS Technical Comitee work, esp. metadata in ODF 1.2 and ODFDOM as library, I won't be working on these filters any longer. We here in Hamburg (Sun) are focusing on development the new OOXML (as Microsoft does). If on the elder Microsoft 2003 XML format filters some fix is in need from the community, we need as well someone from the community to fix it.
