So I have read BUG 20370, and some interesting points have been put forward, recompatability with MS Word when converting OO documents into THAT format, and then losing all the neato font and artwork, because the font doesn't embed. My problem is quite similar. I own all my own fonts, by extracting them from every bit of software I have ever owned, and free downloads from the net etc. AND when I do some neato grapics in OO DRAW (or WRITE) on my Windoze computer - with the huge hard drives, fast CPU and stacks of RAM and all the fonts installed: I use a special font for a trade mark, with very carefully set letter sizing and spacing and location in the document. AND THEN: When I transfer that same document onto to my LINUX computer, with the tiny hard drive and rather ancient CPU; I find that the FONTS that I used in THAT document on THAT computer, are NOT in the document when I move it to another computer. So I am thinking - do I go spend "quite some time" trying to install the 2000+ fonts onto the rather ancient laptop, and then trying to find the correct font to reload into the document; and to then have to reconfigure all of the special layout settings for the fonts? OR do I come here and raise the issue of what a really really bad thing it is to have an office suite that does not embed the fonts into the documents by default? I mean this IS really really BAD; because in as much as a car up on bricks with the wheels removed is no longer a car; So is an office suit that does not retain the contents and settings in the works created with it. The fonts and layouts used to create the works or documents, ARE the works and documents. This failure to be able to save a document as is, with all of it's fonts, layouts and properties, it's not a failure, it's a disaster. I also dislike finding out AFTER the event, that when I SAVE any and all of my works and documents created using the Open Office program; that it is NOT actually saving the document or works, it's only saving the document or work, relative to the resources stored on the computer that it was created on. So when I change computers, all that hard work gets left behind on the computer it was created on; an what the Open Office creators have left me with is essentially worthless. This adds a number of extra steps to envelope printing. Use case / Steps to reproduce: Combine this version of OO.o 3.1.1 with a HP LaserJet 3030 driven by recent HPLIP/hpijs packages. #10 Envelopes will print correctly based on the centered positioning option in [Envelope -> Printer] _if_ the Envelope page type in [Envelope -> Printer -> Setup] is set to Envelope #10. By default, the Printer -> Setup field is set to "Letter." OO.o will detect this and attempt to format an envelope-sized frame onto something resembling appx. two-thirds of a "Letter"-sized page in landscape, but the printing stack presumably tries to center this by default (probably desirable for other programs with odd-sized output) because the bottom ~third of the page is not present, causing "none of these choices work" alignment issues. Desired behavior/resolution: Envelope page-size setup preferences should persist per printer, and/or the [Insert -> Envelope -> Help] and [Insert -> Envelope -> Printer -> Help] should document where this setting is supposed to be stored. Adding an "Envelope" tab in [File -> Printer Settings] to set the default envelope page definition for the Envelope "wizard" would also appear to make sense. Related observations: Saving a properly-formatted Envelope as a document (and presumably as a template) preserves the page size definition, so this is only a problem with the "wizard" / ephemeral Insert Envelope feature. The BeginGroup/EndGroup parathneses for PDF export are needed (at least as long as this is done using a Metafile and not primitives), but GraphicObject::Draw(..) was and is not the correct place to do so. We have two different graphic objects in SW and the rest of the office. It may be that SW uses only GraphicObject::Draw(..) to draw it's graphic, but this is not the case for the DrawingLayer graphics. Dependent on if the transformation of the graphic uses a rotation or even a shear, there are three versions (see VclProcessor2D::RenderBitmapPrimitive2D): (1) RenderBitmapPrimitive2D_BitmapEx uses OutputDevice::DrawBitmapEx(..) (2) RenderBitmapPrimitive2D_GraphicManager uses GraphicObject::Draw(..) (3) RenderBitmapPrimitive2D_self credates an own pixel transformation to paint a created BitmapEx Method (3) e.g. is especially used for sheared graphics what is possible anytime with primitives. Method (2) when only rotated, and (1) when neither shear nor rotate. The embedding itself is not even based on BitmapPrimitive2D, but on GraphicPrimitive2D (which hold a Graphic), which is embedded into these parantheses by not using GraphicPrimitive2D but it's decomposition and whatever output method these will use (see 'case PRIMITIVE2D_ID_GRAPHICPRIMITIVE2D' in VclMetafileProcessor2D::processBasePrimitive2D). In short: Creating those parantheses should not be part of the Paint method, but around it's call. It should happen before and after the call to GraphicObject::Draw(..). The idea behind this is that there are more than this way (not in SW currently) to actually paint that GraphicObject's content. When doing the fix as proposed above, the Drawinglayer GraphicObjects (all except SW's) will be double embedded in these parantheses since the BeginGroup/EndGroup cannot be directly removed in 'case PRIMITIVE2D_ID_GRAPHICPRIMITIVE2D' because any of the three visualisations (and NOT only GraphicObject::Draw(..)) may be choosen in the decomposition. Since I cannot make changes to the table the database program is useless to me. I would be happy to share the affected database file or even perform further testing to check other scenarios.
