If cell is empty(no content), but has borders, then it shows "You are pasting
date to the cells that already contain data".

if i remove borders, i can paste data without any warning.

Let say i have empty cell in A1 and B1 has formula "=A1".

Problem: B1 shows 0, if A1 is empty, even A1 has type TEXT.

So there is no way to make cell to point to empty cell.
if i try to apply cell format TEXT to B1, it shows "=A1".

Steps to reproduce:
1. create data pilot table
2. last line contains text "Total result". I want to change it to lithuanian
text "Iš viso:" (or german, italian or else, but do not want to install GUI in
other language).
Only way to do this is to use find-replace:
 - CTRL+F "Total result"
 - "Iš viso:"
 - button "Replace all"

If text can be changed, why i cannot edit directly: select cell with mouse, F2,
enter text directly to cell.

Lithuanian translation of "Total result" is made as "Suma Rezultatas", which has
no sense. Becase these words are both nouns, and are synonims. Also only names
and first letter of sentence can be writen with first capital letter.

It should be "Galutinė suma", "Iš viso" or simply "Suma".

Data pilot of OpenOffice adds text (empty) to indicate empty lines.
There is no way to change it, to do not show any text to indicate empty lines.

Problem is that i use English OO UI, with Lithuanian locale, to create data
pilot in German document, where default language is german.

Options:
- User can enter any text instead (Empty). this should option when creating
data pilot, it would be annoying to delete it after every refresh
- text should be writtenn according default selected language in document.

it think problem is lithuanian translation - it thanslated "heading" as
"antraštė" and "header" as "antraštė".
This causes:
1. there is no "header" style in documents created with lithuanian version.
2. if document is created with english version, lithuanian version shows all
"headings" (heading1, heading2) with style which was set on "header" (page
header)

sorry for reopening, but in another case this problem would not get attention.

When Mozilla or Acrobat enables quickstarter i does two two things:
1. add program to autostart (when OS starts) list
2. enables quickstarter

So, this mean, that i can delete shortcut from autotart list. And this do not
disable quickstart of mozilla and acrobat. It starts when i start program first
time.

If i try to do the same for openoffice - quickstarted do not starts. OpenOffice
diasapears from memory, if close last window. And thi do not hapen on Mozila, do
not hapen on Acrobat, do not hapen on linux version of openoffice. To close
Mozila/Acrobar linux ooo i have to click on quicstarter and select "close/end/or
something like this".
This is usefull , when you don't need program all the time, but when you need,
you using very intensive.

At work i'm using Windows, at home - Baltix(Debian), all program, what i use on
both computers, acts the same on linux and on windows. All except OpenOffice
quickstarter. :/

1. if i disable starting of mozilla when OS starts, quickstarter starts when i
start mozilla, and will sit in memory until i turn off computer.
2. The same acts Adobe acrobat.

So, quick starter of openoffice, acts in different way like other popular
systems.

3. why quickstart acts different on Linux? On linux, if you want to have it
started , when os starts, you have manualy put it to sessions.

4. if quickstart aim is to make first start of openoffice to make faster - OO
failed - starting of quickstarter is too long.

I don't like such microsoft style "WE know better, what you need".
I need fast start of OS, to be able to work with program what i need, but not
which was choosen by openoffice. Starting of quickstarter takes time, and slows
down loading of other program, which i realy need.

In general, quick starter do not act the same on windows and on linux.

On linux it does not sit in memory until i start openoffice.
On Windows openoffice sit in memory even i do not started openofice.

On linux option "use quoistarter", does only one thing - it enables
quickstarter.
On Windows option "use quickstarter", does two thinga
 - it enables quickstarter.
 - it starts openoffice, when OS is startig

quickstarter should start only when i open openoffice first time and sit in
memory to speed up openoffice, when i start open office second and next time.
Like on linux.

I don't want to have openoffice running, when i boot my pc just to watch movie.

There is no way to set on windows version od OOo, to start quick start on first
start of OOo, but not when Windows starts.

I want to have quick start running, when i deside to work with OOo, but not when
i start my PC. This is how quickstart works on Baltix/Ubuntu/Debian versions.

But i have to prepare and print report, then copy/paste to SQL server, using
German number format - 0.00
1. I selected column
2. I set number format 0.00, language german.
3. i UNchecked "thousands separator"

as reported lithuanian Openoffice.lt users
(http://openoffice.lt/forumai/openoffice_calc/funkcija_proper_nesupranta_lietuvybes)
function PROPER corrupts lithuanian text.
Example:
=PROPER("LABAS. BITĖ - LIETUVIŲ ĮMONĖ")
should retun: "Labas,. Bitė - Lietuvių Įmonė",
But it returns: "Labas, Bi̇Ėė Lli̇Utuvi̇M Ṅ"

On M$ Office Excel you can set on cell background: pattern, iamage, color.
So, if i open with OOo a document created with M$ Office Excel: how can i change
image?
I understand it as issue of compatibility with M$ Office format.

Also, how to explain to user, that it is possible to set image on table cell in
OOo Write, but not possible on Calc. For them it is the same thing.

got result, which was unexpected, they reported this as bug of openoffice.org.

Then this is bug in help system. Help system confuses users.

This bug i got from several lithuanian users, who used help of openoffice.org.

Look what is written in description of BAHTTEXT function in openoffice.org calc:
"Converts a number to text (baht)"

Normal user do not know, what mean "baht", is it function name, name of
algorithm. they simpy ignores it. From this decription is not clear (even for
me), that result will be in baht languge.

Change title of this issue to: "BATHTEXT(50) function confuses users"
Lithuanian users do not understand, why baht is more important than lithuanian.
why baht have function, and lithuanian do not.

No, i do not need transliteration. It will not help: In lithuanian you should
write name and last name, in russian - lastname and name, sometimes name of
father (russian tradition, like middle name of americans).
In some case, for example in scientific articles, you need to add titles "dr.",
"prof." and etc.

My idea is:
1. Document should to have additional propertie "Author" (maybe list of authors)
2. This field must be filled from "User Data",when document is created
3. Then It should be able to change author of document without affecting Users
data written in settings of OpenOffice.org

This is also useful when you work on public computers, for example in
university.

This is not user friendly.

it should be done automaticaly: if i change settings, they must be applied
automaticaly.
At least it should be (I hate such things) shown message to user, that settings
will be applied after he/she restarts OpenOffice.org.
Or it should popup help window with description about it.

Now it looks like bug, not like OOo feature.

http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=58604

I write articles in 3 languages : lithuanian, english and russian. For all of
them i need to set author field. In lithuanian and english my name is written
the same, but I must write my name in russian articles in russian. Do i have
change my data in Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> User Data every time i
start new article, which language differs from previous article?

I tried this with two versions of OOo. even OOo 2.0.1 RC1 has this bug.

2. open another document with OO 1.1.5
3. select and copy to clipboard text from OO 1.1.5
4. paste special in OO 2.0

I have table with ~57 columns (TEXT columns!) and i want to open them as text
columns. OpenOffice has great feature to autodetect colum type, thank you for
this very much, but when i need to set manualy 57 times column type to "TEXT",
this makes me crazy... (And my coleagues are going to kill be because of
additional work, because i insisted to use OpenOffice... :( )

Sorry, but his is totaly nonsense: You cannot force user to use features, which
he do not need or not want to use. This is far away from "freedom"...

It is logical, if user set that text field begins with " sign, this means, that
user wants to have fields, which begin with " sign, as text fields.

Proposals:
1. by default all fields, which begin with " (o any else choosen by user as text
field mark), must be marked as text fields.
OR
2. Make it posible to select all fields to mark them to import as text fields

I need this to write set of equations.
It should look this way:

I created new empty presentation. I did not made any changes in style of that
presentation. Then pasted title of presentation from writer document to first
slide. when i saw result, i made undo: text disapeared, but style of pasted text
left. So i had to delete slide, and insert new.

Another related problem - if i paste/undo text to list, i cannot remove that
pasted style nor pressing delete button in line before corupted line neither
pressing backspace in beginning of coruped line.

As i remeber, to insert formula use Insert->object, then choose "Equation bla
bla bla". But by default Equation editor is not installed. You must make custom
instalation and to install Equation editor.

Font "Times new roman" is default font for content. But it does not matter which
was font before. Problem appears in all layouts, in any textbox: title or
content.

Another example:
1. I have text document, text is writen with "Arial, 12pt"
2. I have presentation, Default "Times new roman, 32pt"
3. copy text from text document, paste to presentation
4. undo (ctrl+z)
5. pasted text disapears, but textbox in presentation remains with font "Arial,
12pt"

I have presentation creates with MS poverpoint. I saved presentaion in odp
format using OO 1.9.93.
But 1.9.93 has some not solved problem with showing circles, which corupts
documents after every reopenning. So I saved presentation in SXI format.
But when i opened sxi file vith oo 1.1.4, i found, that all text and circles
disapeared.

Then i saved odp to ppt using oo 1.9.93, and opened ppt with oo 1.1.4, everyting
were in right place, so i saved presentation in sxi.

Conclusion: OO 1.9.93 has better support of MS formats, than own older formats.

This bug occures not every time.

But some times, when i copy text with mathematical formulas using clipboard from
oo 1.1.3 to oo 2.0 beta, after saving some formulas in text are replaced by
copied formulas.

[sw-issues] [Issue 44689] Need export/import function for Catalogs of symbol mappings?

I found workaround:
1. create empty Formula document
2. create Catalog of symbols
3. add all mappings to that catalog
4. save document as .odf, for example zed_mappings.odt

In all text documents after inserting formula:
1. enter formula edit mode
2. tools->Import Formula...
3. select Formula document (zed_mappings.odt) and click "insert"

Now in formula you have all mappings

You missed main point - this is ONE formula.
There must be SPACE in the beginning of every line except first.
And if i put "~" sign after "newline", "alignl" do not work - it shows
upsidedown question mark.

My entered very long formula is about 30 cm long.
i splited it to logigal parts using "newline"
All splitted parts must be aligned to left with small gap in the beginning.
But by default OO 2.0 beta centers everything.
Problem: I cannot put "alignl: because then it shows upsidedown "?" mark.

My entered very long formula is about 30 cm long and i cannot put it or print it
on A4 format paper.
But i can logicaly split it to parts.
BUT: "newline" does not help, because i cannot put it after operators: "divide",
"and", "or" and etc.
