[amsat-bb] SPROUT received in UK
I have submitted my report via the Sprout website. 25 may 2014 1308 utc, slightly later than yesterday's keps predicted. I used an SDR receiver (FCD ProPlus )and took a screendump. I was surprised that on replay the modulation was not afsk ie no tones heard -just heard the rushing noise and saw the data on the dump. is that normal for gmsk? So I sent the sdr image file instead of the hex code - hope they find it as it was only possible to do this under the sstv section of thew ebsite. 73 de andy g0sfj ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Re: [amsat-bb] Cub Scout Space Camp Theme
That was over 2 years ago, but I am sure I can find something. It might take a while. So far we are looking at: A short talk On The Air QSOs RECEIVE WEATHER SAT IN ABSENCE of OSCAR A treasure hunt using clues dealing with space history and technology. That might add up to 2 - 2.5 hours of activities and learning. It all depends on what the venue will be. Small groups, large groups, are they looking for introductory material or something in depth, will the timing be during a pass, what do you want to accomplish.lots of things impact what will be presented. I'd suggest you look into presenting something that matches a requirement to satisfy an award the scouts can walk away with. Perhaps a requirement for a Bear Arrow Point Award. I saw major categories for: Space Weather Radio Electricity Maps Each category has some requirements that could be addressed during your presentation. In my mind, setting up to take a NOAA satellite pass might fit into a number of these categories (of course it all depends on when the scouts will be in the area). This would give you connections to all the categories listed above. You might have the scouts make a model of a CubeSat and then witness a FunCube pass so they can see the data (graphs) that are the outcome of the telemetry (interpreting the graphs would be pretty heady stuff of a scout camp venue). In any event, you're going to have your hands full between the venue, age, time limitation and the bell schedule of the event. If all the stars align and there is an appropriate pass, all it will take is for the previous presentation to run over, and all your careful planning is out the window. So a backup plan is in order. BE PREPARED I guess is the word of the day. Hope you have a busy time. Mark The K4AMG Club has been approached by a CUB SCOUT summer camp coordinator. The camp will be held in Norfolk, VA at an Elk's Lodge on Friday June 27th. Age range of kids are 6 -10 years old. Looking for suggestions of what to do. They are willing to give us 1 - 2 Hours. Example: Toss the satellite where kids stand in a circle and spin a 4" square box around to show orbit and spin. So now it is time for your ideas. [amsat-bb] FUNcube 2014 - Further Mission Info
From g3vzv - The latest news we have is: We have received confirmation that UKube-1, which is hosting the FUNcube-2 payload, is now scheduled for a Soyuz launch on Saturday June 28th with the following day as a back-up. The launch time has been quoted as 15:58:28 UT with separation some 9253 seconds later. We still understand that, immediately after deployment and activation, UKube-1 will commence transmitting a CW beacon and that this will be later followed by an AX25, 1k2 BPSK beacon. Both beacons will be on 145.840MHz. The FUNcube-2 payload, with its telemetry downlink for educational outreach, is expected to be tested later. FUNcube-3 is the transponder only payload on the QB50 precursor CubeSat “QB50P1″. This mission is now scheduled to launch on June 19th on a Dnepr LV from Yasny. The launch time has been quoted as19:11:11 UTC but this has not yet been confirmed. The initial beacon signals, from the main transceiver, are also expected to be AX25, 1k2 BPSK packets on 145.815MHz. Again more information will be provided as soon as it becomes available! [amsat-bb] AO-7 Recent Behavior
Good morning, AO-7 seems to be showing some odd behavior. For about three weeks of the eclipse cycle, it had been operating perfectly in Mode B with strong and clear signals on each and every pass. However, yesterday it was off during two ascending passes over the United States. It was back in Mode B during a pass over the Western United States around 23:30Z last night. PY5LF reported that it was in Mode B for 5-6 minutes after leaving eclipse and then it abruptly shut off. Reports from Europe on the AAR29 log also indicate it had shut off on ascending passes. My theory is that the sun angles on the solar panels are not ideal at this point. When it powers up after eclipse in Mode B, voltages fall such that the undervoltage detector kicks in and switches the satellite to Mode D (both transponders off). The satellite would then stay in Mode D until it loses power on the next eclipse and restarts in Mode B. If this is the case, my recommendation to Southern Hemisphere stations would be to wait a couple of minutes after it comes out of eclipse to start uplinking to the satellite and to keep power levels low until the panels are better illuminated. This behavior has not been reported on descending passes, though signals were reported to be weak and distorted at times this morning over the United States. Weak and distorted signals on the two meter downlink may be partially explained by Sporadic E as six meters has been open most of the morning. 73, Paul, N8HM ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. [amsat-bb] SPROUT keps
Just had a SPROUT pass that had an unobstructed LOS over the Pacific. It’s LOS didn’t match any of the five objects currently list for that launch! Here’s the calculated LOS vs. my observed: (Using element set 3 for #39768) Observed LOS: approximately 21:23:40 UTC 2014-029A LOS 21:29:34 2014-029B LOS 21:25:50 2014-029C LOS 21:24:23 2014-029D LOS 21:27:03 2014-029E LOS 21:25:50 So, it looks like there is at least one more object that hasn’t been added to 2014-029 list yet. It was transmitting CW this pass, but I was so busy manually aiming the antenna and correcting for Doppler that I didn't capture any data. 73, Ken, W7KKE ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. I "think" I heard the beacon of AO-73 on the FO29 down link. Both satellites were over lapping I have no idea how to figure the Doppler from two satellites in conjunction. The signal stopped at FO-29 LOS. The time was 0055Z. 73 Bob W7LRD CN87wk ___ Sent via AMSAT-BB@amsat.org. Opinions expressed are those of the author. Not an AMSAT-NA member? Re: [amsat-bb] Cub Scout Space Camp Theme
Rich, Cool, to expand on the idea: With the hidden transmitter hunt, the clues could be voice recording playing out of the hidden transmitter. which they get clues for one phase of their day, then, tell them for the next phase, make this antenna, and hook to handheld, and go find the thing thats been giving instructions...make sure security group nows what you're hiding for a transmitter and don't put it in a piece of Pipe. For the clues, feed the hidden transmitter with an iPod output with 1 long audio file that loops on the ipod. Record the clue, followed by 1 min of silence, followed by another clue, silence, clue, silence and set that one audio file to to play as a loop feeding the hidden transmitter... maybe another transmitter with clues on how to make the antenna, where the instruction paper is hidden, etc... We did the tape measure antennas at the National Scouting Jamboree last summer, effective. 1/2" PVC pipe, tape, and hose clamps, and a piece of coax with BNC on one end. 73 Mike W4UOO On Sun, May 25, 2014 at 6:42 PM, Rich/wa4bue wrote: > Great idea. > > This one is clues to answer questions. > > Maybe we can do that too! > > - Original Message - > *From:* Mike Sprenger > *To:* Rich/wa4bue > *Sent:* Sunday, May 25, 2014 5:58 PM > *Subject:* Re: [amsat-bb] Cub Scout Space Camp Theme > > If doing a treasure hunt, do you make a Tape measure yagi for 2 meters > with a handheld and search for a small hidden transmitter outside ? > > > > > On Sun, May 25, 2014 at 11:07 AM, Rich/wa4bue wrote: > >> That was over 2 years ago, but I am sure I can find something. I have heard that a few times. A month or so ago, I was talking to AC0RA on FO-29 one night when the beacon started coming up right under us. What would be really neat is to decode the telemetry that way, though I doubt you'll ever hear it strong enough to do so. 73, Paul, N8HM On Sun, May 25, 2014 at 9:12 PM, Bob- W7LRD wrote: > I "think" I heard the beacon of AO-73 on the FO29 down link. Hi Bob, Check if there satellites part of your SatPC32 groups that are no longer available because they decayed, examples are Kicksat, Phonesat, Litsat etc. I am running into the same, also keep in mind that Space Track can alter satellites ID's the last I run into was ITF-1 and this also gave the error you experience. 73 Jan PE0SAT On 26-05-2014 02:00, Bob- W7LRD wrote: I am getting Ungultige Gleitkommaoperation marching across the screen on satpc32.
