Re: web hosting recommendations?
Re: web hosting recommendations? Well good luck contacting AWS; they're quite an important player, you know, and you're just not large enough to matter to them. I agree, S3 and CloudFront are excellent, as is Glacier. I use Glacier for my backups and CloudFront to distribute completely reliably, and it works out much better than trying to do it myself from my own machines even when you take into account the ease of transferring files to a web server using FTP.EC2, hmm, I'm less sure. It's great that it's pay-as-you-go, but unless you want performance so awful you might as well not bother, their smallest instance isn't terribly cost-effective unless you use spot prices. Then again, performance so awful you might as well not bother is just fine for mucking about on, especially if it's not for long. Free tier away.Amazon is the only provider still remaining that does not support IPv6.I intend to bring the cloud down to my Mac Mini, and pretend that it's far away so that I can imagine there's actually someone in the world who cares. The illusion will be shattered the moment there is a power cut, of course, but the twin SSDs inside and Core I7 3.4GHz processor will make my apt-get updates go really fast, so I'll be really happy and won't mind that. I use Joker for domain registration. They are extremely bare-metal; do not expect to be hand-held, because they're essentially an interface to the registries. Re: Experiences with Infocom
Re: Experiences with Infocom Well Sebby, I will confess I don't actually play much if anymore precisely because! of the parser problem. I used to play a considderrable amount in 2005-7, including infocom classics but I just got severely tired of four out of every six games I played ending with one of those "I don't know how to put" type of encounters or some ridiculously illogical situation, or of having to constantly use hints or a walkthru. I did play some very lovely if, and I don't doubt there is much more out there, I just got a little tired of having to search for it, and also tired of finding a really great game I wanted to progress through but couldn't due to said issues, this is likely why the Parser issue bothers me so much, it pretty much soured me on the hole genre which is likely an unfare generalization. But as I said I got a little sick of trying to pull the wheet from the chaff when there appeared to be so much chaff, especially sinse gamebooks, object mani pulation games like Inquisitor, limited Parser titles like Eamon or Kerkerkruip, or even occasionally muds and browser games could provide me the good parts of If, participation in a story, mental challenge without stupidity, emotional connection and exploration of a detailed world or setting, without the bad bits. As regards why I specifically have trouble with parser and puzzles I don't know. Maybe it is that my thought processes tend to be a little more rarified and less streight forward than most other people's, indeed this is one reason i enjoy tabletop rp sinse my most whacky plans are quite possible to a human Gm, or maybe it is just that I am more interested in interactive fiction exploring the setting, examining everything, learning the history and completing the story than solving random puzzles. Or maybe it is that I tend to prefer situations like combat or resource management where i am presented with a limited number of options or resources and required to make the best of them, (particularly if such challenges are well described and fit into the over all framework of the mythos and story like those in King of dragon pass), rather than a static puzzle of scratching my head over some eccentric turn of logic, like how to open the locked box with the stickk, the garden shears and the slice of chocolate cake. Re: I have a deep desire to build higher quality games for blind people.
Re: I have a deep desire to build higher quality games for blind people. Hi.I'm sorry I didn't explained myself good enough. I ment a graphical interface, made accessible to blind people from the ground. A graphical interface like in a mainstream game, so sighted people and blind people could play together. A fully featured audio game in stereo or surround sound, so you could hear what direction the sounds are comming from. You should be able to hear people walking around you, people fighting and doing other stuff. Choices could be selected from listboxes and maybe different windows which you could reach by using the keybord commands. A combination with the mouse and keyboard could be used to control the character in the game. A graphical interface is not just graphic, but we still get the visual layout when using listboxes, dialog boxes, menus etc.Look at Second Life. Not the text client but the actual client. This have sounds in stereo, and you can hear people and almost everything around you. Not many people care about those sounds, but they are there. Look at games like GTA, where the audio is fantastic! I don't want that great audio, but look at how much audio there is. People walking, talking, fighting, going in and out of cars and all kinds of everyday sounds in the game.So it would be awesome if we could get a high quallity game, not with very high quallity sounds, but with lots of detailed sounds like in the GTA games. If you wanna hear some totally amazing audio in a mainstream game, you should check out the Splinter cell games. Re: I have a deep desire to build higher quality games for blind people. Hi.Sorry to dubble post, but I would make sure my comment regarding to gaming on a virtual machine made through. [[wow]] this topic has grown a lot while I've been out of the country this weekend. I didn't had the japanese games in mind then I said that money is required to make a quallity game. I must at mit I haven't played bk3 much yet. then I mentioned quallity games, I had mainstream games like Resident evil 6 in mind. I see some nice features and solit gameplay in this game, which easily could have been translated into an audiogame. I mentioned games which would take months to complete. I had games like GTA in mind, where one of the games takes nea rly 150 hours to complete. That would take months for me at leased, sinse I have a job and are doing lots of other things as well than playing games. Could you imagine a mud like alter aeon in a full audiogame where you have to walk and played the game using a graphical interface instead of typing in commands? Imagine this huge world, all the quests, a voice chat, text chat and all the features made in an audiogame. that is how some of the high quallity online mainstream games are today. I must at mit I haven't played alter for very long time now, sinse I haven't had time to play the game. But from what I hear, this game have endless of hours of gameplay, if you wanna complete all the quests in the game.URL: http://forum.audiogames.net/viewtopic.php?pid=178886#p178886 ___ Audiogames-reflector mailing list Audiogames-reflector@sabahattin-gucukoglu.com https://sabahattin-gucukoglu.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/audiogames-reflector
