Eddie M, For Family Finder: If you have access to your parents (or even your grandparents) test the older generation first. If your parents (or grands) are not alive but their siblings are alive, test them. If it's just you and dad, test your dad and yourself. Then you can filter your matches between you and your dad and find your mom's half. Eddie, as Cheri always says, it’s probably better to have your Dad do the FF
because he is 100% even though his Mom is from Madeira. You could also have
Dad’s Ydna done too.

I only have one new FF match in the Azores group from this batch. But my
mom has a bunch! She has a total of twelve besides me--those are not all from
this batch. Her results came out in July. She is half Azorean, I'm only a
quarter. Having her test was a great idea!
So glad more are testing. Now if they will upload a gedcom or at least a
list of surnames we can try to connect! :)

Two male relatives on two different sides of my ancestors have similar Y-DNA results-all Northern European. One has no matches for the YDNA-37 markers, only 12 and 25. The second has four 37 marker matches, all at 4 steps. Neither has matches with people with Portuguese surnames listed. Both are haplogroup R-M269. We have brick walls on both sides and hoped that we might break through, but nothing so far. A third male relative has several fairly close matches at the YDNA-37 level, including a 0 level match, and his matches are all Portuguese or Spanish in origin. The haplogroup is J-M172 indicating North African, Middle Eastern and Southern European origins. We have identified the matching ancestor, but it appears that the births of the common ancestors were illegitimate which has greatly complicated the search. My cousin has been working diligently on doing the research, but so far lots of probabilities, no conclusions. At least we have advanced some in the quest. With my own FamilyFinder results, I have lots of matches. So far, except for my first cousin and one fairly distant cousin from Terceira, I have not been able to identify common ancestors. The match from Terceira confirms the information we have on that line as to its origins in Terceira as discovered on the NEPS database. I have had problems today with Y-DNA matches and the FTDNA site not responding.
