Piedade is a place in Pico. Without seeing the record, it's hard to say
what you are looking at.

Here are the online transcriptions from the NEPS site for Piedade, Pico:

Re: [AZORES-Genealogy] Meaning of "piedade"

2012-09-03 Thread Deb McCabe
Altino,

Thanks for the help.  Unfortunately, the only word preceding "piedade" is
"born."  "Piedade" isn't capitalized either.

Everyone else in this family group was born in Sao Mateus, Pico, so I'm
inclined to think it isn't a reference to the parish in Sao Miguel.  I will
check it out nevertheless.  Anyone with other thoughts/suggestions?

Happy Labor Day.
Deb

Deb, there is also another parish of the same name on the Island of Pico.

Hi Deb,

If the preceding words are Nossa Senhora da + piedade, they are probably
referring to the parish of Nossa Senhora da Piedade (Our lady of Piety),
located in Ponta Garça, Villa Franco do Campo (or Villa Franca for short) in
São Miguel.

Here's a link to a photo of the inside:

You could probably google it and find more info that particular parish.
