There is a similar problem with 2.4 part in English: left menu and

The same time non-English versions work well:

[Bf-committers] replacement for DXF-importer script

2014-06-08 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
hi,
a new DXF-importer based on "dxfgrabber" library is under development
by Lukas Treyer:
https://bitbucket.org/treyerl/io_import_scene_dxf/overview

He has been working on it since December and with minimal support from
me he was able to complete it quite well. I am going with him over
bugfix iterations and can confirm it very good level of completeness
and stability.
Lukas is going to continue the development and support bugfixing in
the future too. This is great!
I can recommend his version as replacement for the official (very
limited) importer for the next Blender release (2.71) and I will
upload it to main repository if you agree :)
DXF importer manual page on blender wiki will be updated shortly.

thanks

Re: [Bf-committers] Make Parent - shouldn't it work differently?

2012-09-21 Thread Remigiusz Fiedler
Hi Bartek,

there is a "non-exposed"(a shame!) feature in parenting routine:
For non-inverse-mode press Shift-Ctrl-P instead. This creates an
alternative parent-child-relationship where child-objects exist
entirely in parent coordinate system. This is the better choice for
CAD purposes for example.

I roll it back
- this works!

but parenting with
shift ctrl p
produces not exactly what we (CAD people) need:
it transfers child object to parent's coordinates system inclusive
child's xyz-orientation but dropping its xyz-location vector

I think the first place to discuss his ideas is his blog, not this mailing list.

Re: [Bf-committers] API: How to get a list of running scripts?

Dima,
yes, i meant Python API,
and particularly 2.49 API.

Global variables (like Blender.myvariable) are perfect for
script-to-script communication but there seems to be no way to
update/delete them when the script cancels unexpectedly (by
user_cancel or by errors).

i use something similar already, but this is not the issue.

The problem stays (2.49 and 2.6x API): how to prevent user and other
scripts to start next instances of running scripts. As i said before,
setting a global variable as indicator of running script fails: if the
script suddenly collapses there is no way to alter the variable
automatically - the variable continues to indicate running status what
is false.

> For what reasons are you still using 2.49, by the way?
>
I like 2.49 for stability, decent system requirements
(building/developing/usage) and good performance on old hardware (like
my old portable, hehe). And for its python API.
I am prototyping a CAD system and 2.49 is more than enough for this job:
www.cad4arch.com/cadtools/
I have planed to migrate to 2.5x, but the new UI and API are quite
different and effectively still kind of restricted in compare to 2.49
version. The combination of unified API and python driven UI is a
great concept and an opportunity to create a number of easily
switchable specialized UI-s for beginners, filmmakers, animators,
game-developers, engineers, scientists, musicians... even in 2.25 or
2.49 style, but unfortunately the current implementation does not
allow it.

my scripts are triggered by "Redraw" not by "Frame change", so i have
thought about time stamps and delay value checks, but it is not
reliable, because the idle periods may be unpredictable long.

Though it should be easy to extend - i have to look at
Blender.Scene.getScriptLinks() method.
