Re: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker problem
Did you get a service contract with it? If so the parts are free and you only have to pay the service call and they will replace it for you. If no service agreement you can get your model and serial number and order a new ice maker yourself. They are fairly straight forward to install and once you get the one to match your model and serial numbers it's a matter of remove and replace. I wouldn't run all of the new wires since they unplug at the side. You can run the whole set of wires if you like adding extra work, they go along the side and back and fishing a new harness through will teach the kids new words you probably don't want them hearing. - Original Message - From: rodger.hood To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sunday, July 27, 2008 12:47 PM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker problem I have a Siers side-by-side refrigerator and the ice maker has stopped making ice all of a sudden. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker problem
We used to own a Sears with an ice maker. The electrical connections unplug something like a DB connector. The water connection is not actually a connection. The water comes out of the end of a pipe that pokes out of the freezer wall just above the ice maker. I think there were only 3 screws holding it in. The front cover pops off and there are a couple of gears in there that drive the fingers around to push the ice out of the reservoir. That gear gets stripped out because it is made of plastic. A new one cost me about 2 dollars back in the 80s. The price probably has gone up but it still shouldn't require you to take out a loan. Regards. Max. K 4 O D S. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker problem
Lets go with the obvious. There is a lever on the ice maker that tells it when the bin under it is full. Is that lever in the down position? You may have already checked this, but sometimes it's the little things that are missed, so figured I'd ask. Also, what about the water line going to the ice maker? Is it by chance frozen? I've never seen a line do hat, but have heard it can happen. The first thing I'd check is to see if it's level both front to back and side to side. - Original Message - From: Dave Mitchell To: blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com Sent: Friday, March 21, 2008 8:48 AM Subject: [BlindHandyMan] Ice Maker Malfunction Hi All, We have a Sears bottom freezer refrigerator. Thanks Jim. No issues with the floor and the rear 2/3 of the cube tray delivers standard size cubes so I'm quite sure that being out of level is not my problem. Hi Brice, two things , do you have plenty of ice in the bucket?. I ask because accidentally I flipped up the wire ring in our machine thus stopping ice from being made. the second thing I would check with is there an obstruction in your auger which push's out the ice and one last thing is change it over to crushed or chipped to see if it does the same thing.Lee -- Linux - Das System fuer schlaue Maedchen ;) -- banshee To listen to the show archives go to link http://acbradio.org/handyman.html or ftp://ftp.acbradio.org/acbradio-archives/handyman/ The Pod Cast address for the Blind Handy Man Show is. http://www.acbradio.org/news/xml/podcast.php?pgm=saturday The Pod Cast address for the Cooking In The Dark Show is. http://www.gcast.com/u/cookingindark/main.xml Visit The New Blind Handy Man Files Page To Review Contributions From Various List Members At The Following Address: http://www.jaws-users.com/handyman/ Visit the new archives page at the following address http://www.mail-archive.com/blindhandyman@yahoogroups.com/ For a complete list of email commands pertaining to the Blind Handy Man list just send a blank message to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Yahoo! RE: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker
Hello Brice, I have experienced a similar problem with my ice maker. When it has happened, I always find a piece of ice broken off and lodged in the "rake like" mechanism that pushes the ice around and out into the collection bin. I free it up by using a hair drier to slightly melt the piece of ice until I can dislodge it. Hope this helps. Re: [BlindHandyMan] ice maker
Hi, Is it a Kenmore? That sounds like mine and I pull out the entire tray and dump old ice into the garbage disposal and clean out that ice tray, I've noticed sometimes especially with the crushed ice that the tiny fragments left tend to harden into ice clumps and jam the rotating device to get the ice out. It should just pull right out the entire tray after you remove the front part that just lifts off the part that has the metal flap that lets you get ice manually if you want. Take that off first and then just pull out the tray there's a long metal rod that is part of the device that moves the ice and it plugs back into the hole located behind this tray after you pull it out you should find it towards the back of the freezer. Hope this helps you.. [BlindHandyMan] ice maker
I am having a problem with my ice maker. The ice is being made, but once froze, the mechanism that rolls around and forces the cubes out isn't doing it's job. Yes, I have the arm that turns on and off the ice maker in the correct position. The type is the kind that you can get water, crush ice, and ice cubes right from the door. It's under warranty, and they are coming out next week, but if I can get it fixed before then I'd appreciate it.
