basic help with IIS/CF7

2007-06-22 Thread Tim Laureska
Just installed CFMX 7 & IIS on a new W2k3 machine – I’m trying to access CFM
files from a client machine running studio but I can only browse html files,
not cfm files
Getting the classic message – “ The cold fusion file you are trying to access
cannot be resolved to a url. Please add a development mapping”

I have setup the development mapping as follows: http://server name/cfmx7 and
tried various other variations

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

thanks
Tim

Use single quotes to delimit literal strings in SQL.

RE: CF SQL question

2006-10-05 Thread Tim Laureska
I'm testing for empty fields in the sql query - - -
I've tried this:

select field1, field2 from table1
where field1!=""

and still get:
Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Cannot use empty object or
column names. Use a single space if necessary.

Subject: Re: CF SQL question

Tim,

I'm not entirely clear on where you're testing for empty fields,
whether it is in the SQL in your query, or whether you are checking
the field after the query has returned. So here's my 2 cents:

If it's inside the SQL, you can't compare the field name to an empty
string with IS NOT, you must use equals (=), OR if you are comparing
to NULL, then you would use the IS NOT like so:

select field1, field2 from table1
where field1!=""

OR

select field1, field2 from table1
where field1 is not NULL

If you're checking field content in coldfusion after the query has
returned, then it would be something like this:

blah blah blah

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Kris

RE: IS NULL VS = NULL

2006-02-09 Thread Tim Laureska
Hey Will... I've experienced the same thing and would be curious to know
as well... I've just chalked it up to just being a pure syntax thing...
nothing more than that's just the way it is in SQL server... let's see
if anybody can clarify

Subject: IS NULL VS = NULL

SQL Server - I had a situation where I needed to make sure a field was
NULL. So I used WHERE the field = NULL. It didn't return any records,
but it should've.

So I changed it to WHERE thefield IS NULL, and it works fine.

Why is this? What's the difference between = NULL and IS NULL?

Thanks,
Will

Payflow, in my opinion, is grossly overpriced. Authorize.net is perfect
for
many situations but as discovered in another thread you can manipulate
the
recurring billing via code. Both are easily done with CF.

RE: undeliverable mail

2006-01-29 Thread Tim Laureska
Thanks Jochem... will the exception error stop the execution of the
cfmail for the rest of the valid emails? I would think/hope not

And what is an "NDN"?... non-deliverable something I assume

And wouldn't this NDN go back to the sender address?

If you don't spool (spoolEnable attribute) cfmail will throw an
exception when an error occurs when delivering to the first SMTP
server. Any errors further along will generate an NDN that is
send back to the failto address (presuming the recipients mail
server follows the appropriate RFCs).

RE: cf open shopping cart

2006-01-10 Thread Tim Laureska
Hear hear! Mike

Same experience I had and that's not being critical just a factual
observation. I too wanted to learn from and participate in such a
project b/c I'm a sole developer who doesn't have that group project
opportunity.

But after a several days of seeing the same thing you saw, it was clear
the organization and direction of this project was unclear, so I bailed.

Maybe things have changed at this point, I don't know

To: CF-Talk
Subject: Re: cf open shopping cart

Well I for one was watching this project kick off with interest.
Initially I saw it as an opportunity for me to contribute something back
to
the community that has been so good to me over quite a few years now.
I
thought I would gain from it because it would also be good for me to be
involved in a collaborative project, because I do nearly everything by
myself these days. I know I have some expertise in some aspects of
this
project, and nearly no expertise in other aspects so I thought I could
contribute as well as learn.

So i was about to put my hand up and say I'll dive in and help.

Then the bickering started. Back and forth about what it was going to
be,
and what it was going to do. First it was going to be like this, then
like
that, then like something else, without anyone offering a clear idea
of what it was going to be. "uh oh," I said to myself "this looks
just
like and it'll
be
ages before anyone gets anywhere with it." I was about to suggest a
functional spec, when someone else pooh-poohed the use of CFCs.
Someone
said they didnt want to use this new-fangled CFC stuff. They wanted
to
write the shopping cart using more conventional procedural code. To
be
frank I saw this as adding nothing to the cf community. there is
already
an excellent procedural shopping cart thanks to Ben Forta in the CFWACK
and
quite frankly I dont see what you could do in an open source cart that
wasn't already there in the book, and which I've already used, adapted
and
modified several times.

I didnt say anything at the time because most of the participants seemed
to
like that approach. Rather than try to rain on the parade, I put my
hand
back down and decided to go my own way. If you guys want to build a
new
procedural shopping cart, good luck to you, I'll be standing there
applauding when and if it's finished.

However if anyone wants to take this project in a different direction, I
am
more than willing to put my shoulder to the wheel. But I'd say there
has
to be a few things different:

   - someone has to be elected, appointed or self-appointed as the
project leader (look at the success of the model-glue project - due
in no
small part to the fact that Joe Rinehart has put his personal goolies
on the
line and has taken charge of it)
   - There has to be a clear definition of what the project is for. I'm
afraid, "open source shopping cart" doesnt cut it. There are already
several that if not free are close to it. Most people either have
CFWACK
or know someone who has and there have ready access to how to build a
procedural shopping cart..What's going to be different about this
one?

>From these two things will flow a proper functional spec and a direction
to
the project. At this point, since I havent been following the details
of
the project, you may well have defined the project, but I havent seen
it, so
I cant offer my help.

I'll be glad to add whatever skills and energy I have that might
contribute
to an open source shopping cart if it's going to be a project that
works.
And if it's going to add something new to the world. Just another 'me
too'
shopping cart isnt worth the effort, except that it gives the
contributors
experience and new skills. And to put it bluntly, I'm interested in
developing my skills in the use of CFCs and OOP, not just redoing
something
I've been doing for eight years now.

And that fact that you're lashing about Dave, tells me this project is a
mess right now. It needs an objective that will inspire people to be
involved. The CFEclipse project has inspired it's contributors because
they saw deficiencies in the existing tools and figured they could do a
better one. I reckon if they'd started out saying "lets build a
development
tool that's like notepad with a couple of other features" it would have
gone
nowhere.

Just use it as they tell you, don't go creating all kinds of problems

Not sure how you're using it, but here's a sample of how I am, maybe
this'll help.

stripASCII.cfm

2006-01-09 Thread Tim Laureska
Ok. got this tag off DevEx in an effort to cull out apostrophes from a
text string in an access db field.. I'm fumbling with this UDF.

If anyone is familiar with this tag, I'd appreciate your assistance

Getting this error:

Element HASENDTAG is undefined in THISTAG.

23 : --->
24 :
25 :
26 :
27 :

Here's how I have the tag in the template:

#newString#

There's also a tag out there called StripAscii that is intended to strip

out MS Word high-ascii chars.

I think it's called CF_StripAsci, and I *think* I got it on the DevEx.
I use it all the time to reformat text submitted via a textarea in a
form. We have a place where users can post articles to our site, and
most of the time, they are just copying and pasting from Word to the
textarea, which mucks things up. I've found that this tag works wonders

with that app.

Where  (register_date >= 10/1/2005)

Need to know what syntax to use for the 10/1/2005

then import it into a sql server db for CF access. has anyone had

good approach would be - mainly interested in what a good mechanism for
getting that foxpro db data out would be . the local network server does
not have CF installed

As an Aussie Will I do not celebrate Thanksgiving - but hell we should!
Instead we have barbies (BBQ's), birthdays, Easter, Australia Day,
Christmas, Friday night, etc.

But hey so many or our friends do - and as my all time favourite movie
(well
second after the LOTR trilogy) is Planes, Trains and Automobiles I
almost
understand why!

Almost!

So please enjoy the day - NO CODING OR DESIGN - and enjoy being with the
people you love!

Hey my birthday on December 4 but I live miles (or 300klm) from my
family so
have a good one for me too!!!

Move the file to a folder that is not protected by a login.
The application.cfm will run b4 the file in question otherwise, and if
this
is where your login check is, the file will never get executed.

most of that sounds good but some of it is a bit over the top.
If you make it 00 then it will alienate a good majority of users, needs
to
be simple enough that the average user can modify it.
Some of the xml stuff is over most peoples heads, maybe we could end up
with
2 versions and the 2nd can be a paid version with all that stuff.
I know a lot of people will want to show off their skills but i think it
needs to be user friendly enough for beginners to use it since they will
be
using it probably the most and for those ppl we try to get from php and
such
it will be an easier conversion.

2005-11-10 Thread Tim Laureska
Dave... I'm one of those "non-experts" for sure and agree with your
initial couple of paragraphs assuming that NOT using OO (or any other
more sophisticated coding methods) compromises the value of the final
product in the future. If OO is the way to go, I can step aside, watch
and maybe learn something in the process

I do want to help - and who is taking the lead here? We need to get this
coordinated, develop a plan etc, etc...

I think we need somebody to step up as the Yoda for this project, with
project section coordinators - maybe this is already in place, if so,
let me know

most of that sounds good but some of it is a bit over the top.
If you make it 00 then it will alienate a good majority of users, needs
to be simple enough that the average user can modify it.
Some of the xml stuff is over most peoples heads, maybe we could end up
with 2 versions and the 2nd can be a paid version with all that stuff.
I know a lot of people will want to show off their skills but i think it
needs to be user friendly enough for beginners to use it since they will
be using it probably the most and for those ppl we try to get from php
and such it will be an easier conversion.

Connie left quite an impression on this list huh? Interesting...

Yeah, that sounds good. I tried registering for the forum but it kicked
back an error to me when trying to login. It seems pretty slow too.
Maybe the cross-continent thing is the prob.

So, what's the structure we're looking at here? How OO are we making
this? Someone on the forum asked a version #. I say nix < 5 and stick
with 6 >, due to cfc's usage. I'd prefer it be 100% cfc's, minus
display.

I think the saving of items should be completely customizable so any
database setup and utilize the cfc's and it work perfectly fine. Maybe
on the display side the developer can simply set vars to say what's
showin the table along with any other info needed.

Just thoughts...

Alagad Imaging Component. No custom tag to install, no Java to
explore, just a CFC to drop in. And it works.

It does a lot, and I think it's well worth the price - I think it's like
$75.

If you are using CF's roles based security, you could easily do it
with Galleon, my forums product. (ray.camdenfamily.com, my tools pod
on the right to download or see online example). My docs don't cover
this, but you would just need to make sure your users end up wiht a
Role value that works in Galleon.

If I understand correctly, you're looking to loop over two lists at the
same
time.

If the lists are productIDs and quantities then try the following:

Product ID: #ListGetAt(productIDs, i)#
Quantity: #ListGetAt(quantities, i)#

Swap in your SQL code and away you go.

I've got a form that passes two variable lists:
1) Product id (could be up to 3 different product id's)
2) Quantity of product corresponding to the product name:

I'm trying to insert the product ids and the product quantities into the
same table. I can break down and insert one variable list (ex. product
id) into a linking table by using something like:

INSERT INTO products (product_id)
VALUES #i#

But If I want to "breakdown" the quantity list for that product_id and
insert it into the same linking table I get stuck

Can someone lend a hand here with a pointer
Thanks

a little loop help plz

2005-10-01 Thread Tim Laureska
I've got a form that passes two variable lists:
1) Product id (could be up to 3 different product id's)
2) Quantity of product corresponding to the product name:

I'm trying to insert the product ids and the product quantities into the
same table. I can break down and insert one variable list (ex. product
id) into a linking table by using something like:

INSERT INTO products (product_id)
VALUES #i#

But If I want to "breakdown" the quantity list for that product_id and
insert it into the same linking table I get stuck

Can someone lend a hand here with a pointer
Thanks
Tim

I have a form with a series of checkboxes for a search. One is 'all

I need some JavaScript that will deselect 'All Documents' if somebody
selects one of the other checkboxes. Can somebody give me a hand?

These are my checkboxes:

All
Documents
Annual Report
Books and Studies
Briefing Papers
Issue Briefs
Working Papers

Thank you so much.

If you wanted a true decimal field (not money) then you would specify
column type like this:

DECIMAL(5,3)

Where 5 is how many total digits you want (excluding the decimal) and 3
is how many digits you want to the RIGHT of the decimal.

INT says you want integers: whole numbers without decimal parts. You
should change the column to be MONEY, which will allow for fractional
amounts (cents).

What I would suggest is to create a form object/structure mirror in a
persistent scope that has name/value pairs for the entire form.
Initialize
this data entity with empty values at the beginning of the process.
Then
always populate form fields from this data. At the beginning it will be
null/empty values, but as the form is completed it will contain the
values
of the user. Then no matter what the user does, the form will have
appropriate data.

retaining checkbox selections

2005-09-01 Thread Tim Laureska
I'm sure this has been addressed many times before, but looking for the
best way to have a user completing a multi-page form to retain their
checkbox selections.

In my scenario after completing the form, the user is given a "verify
information" screen where they review all the information they have
entered, including their survey checkbox selections made on one of the
previous pages.. if they use the browser back button the selections are
cleared.

Any pointers for the best way to handle this would be appreciated

My application was running for an office that had gone paperless. Stuff
comes in and is scanned into a holding area and eventually gets routed
(all
200dpi color scans). And gets printed to disk (.ps for permanent storage
and
...pdf for emailing) and later routed as well. Those 'temporary' files
all
accumulated on the backup and let me tell ya... we're talking gigabytes
of
crap over a couple of weeks. The whole backup was like 1/2 TB so I was
real
ready to move it off of DOS when I did.

I used Dantz Retrospect before that, and while it was a fine product I
just
do not like anything that stores files in its own format. I like native
storage and can't stand incremental file sets

True about the deleted files but with hard drive sizes these days, its
not too significant for small businesses , other than if you ever have
to restore, those deleted files will still be there - but the new backup
set idea is a good one too

I did that for years before I switched to SyncBack. Run something like
this
for each drive:

q:
cd\
d:
cd d:\backup\q
xcopy q:*.* /s /e /c /r /y /d
cd\

The first time you run it the thing takes forever cuz its copying
*everything*. Subsequent runs 'freshen' the existing backup. The
drawback to
doing a DOS-based backup, though, is the above will not account for
deleted
files. The deleted files slowly accumulate on the backup and waste more
and
more space. My solution at the time was to, periodically, bite the
bullet
and make a completely new backup set rather than freshening the old one.

Definitely not the same as a true file synch, now that I'm doing that
these
days.

Will for what its worth IMHO, the shirts are great and another piece of
the puzzle for promoting CF

- reminds me of that scene in Forrest Gump where Tom Hanks is running

Maybe its an awkward comparison, but its just one way ppl get exposed to
new things

I think its called "marketing"

I sell CF tshirts > I've lost money so far > any $$ generated from sales

This all equals getting the product name further into the development

Why is this hard to understand?

challenged by

2005-07-26 Thread Tim Laureska
I have a query that pulls member information, including typical info
such a name, address, etc - each member can belong to one or more clubs
and can also be in one or more volunteer capacities

There are 5 tables:
Members - basic member info
Clubs - list of clubs
Volunteer categories - list of volunteer categories
Volunteer inking table - links member id to one or more volunteer
categories
Club linking table - links member id to one or more volunteer categories

Grouping by clubs OR Grouping by volunteer categories is not problem
using the group="club" for example within the cfoutput tag. The
challenge comes in when I the want the volunteer category to also be
displayed for each member..

I've tried this, but it outputs the volunteer and club categories twice
for each member:

#member_id#
#fname# #lname#
#club# (#club_id#)
 volunteer
category:#category#

any suggestions would be appreciated

While the driver itself does support this, have you done this from CF? I
suspect you'd need to write something specific within the JDBC URL to
use
this, and the CF Administrator doesn't give you a place to do that. Or
maybe
you could just choose "Other"?

Subject: Canadian CF hosting & CC processing?

Okay, it seems to be a day for questions for me. :) Can anyone
recommend a Canadian solution for:
A) CF hosting - CFMX prefered, if possible, and in Canada would be nice,
although not absolutely necessary.

B) A CF-friendly company that can handle Canadian on-line credit-card
authorizations - looking around on-line, seems all the big names are
geared to the US. I'm new to this side of things, so I don't know if
that means they only deal in US currency transations, which would mean
two conversions for every sale (Cdn Customer->US $ charge->Cdn $ to the
company), or if it's an option to choose your currency.

I found an old reference to Pacific Online, but they don't seem to be
offering CF hosting anymore. Also one for http://www.afpwebworks.com -
however, I'd prefer something a little closer to home, if possible, but
I'm checking them out - anyone have any comments on their service?

Thanks!
Dirk

Two of us have approached HMS so far and I got the usual rubbish about
"it's shared hosting so tough." They aren't going to fix it.

Has anyone approached Crystaltech or Host My Site directly about this
problem?

Quite right, with properly configured local accounts and JSP disabled,
no datasource sandboxing is necessary if the access details are in the
code and not saved in the Admin.

Or just sandboxing files and not setting datasource passwords in the
administrator.

RE: help with Select dropdown list

2005-05-17 Thread Tim Laureska
Well for being so messed up, I guess I got lucky... got it to work
fine.. just needed to change a couple values in the db (plus correct the
closing Select Tag, although that didn't have any real affect)...

I am not positive about exactly what you are trying to do, b/c bluntly
your code is so messed up, but your cfoutput tags seems to be in the
completely wrong places...also you are not closing your tag
and your 3rd cfoutput is simply looping the query and putitng
extranious tags.
