I know about the 'fix', but disagree with the need for it.

Yeah, it works fine on 6.1. Maybe not the initial versions, because
we were running 4.5 until after 6.1 came out, so it was at least a
month or two after 6.1 before I tried the DevNet edition, but it's
always worked for me. Just drop a CFCONTENT reset="true" in the top
of my layout file (or Application.cfm, for non-FB apps), and the
problem vanishes.

I don't think it was ever fixed for the 6.1 DevNet version, this was one of
the reasons I never renewed that program. Not because it had something like
this, but because it broke correct code.

Yeah, their docs are misleading. You just need CFCONTENT in there.
And more important than XML generation, the meta tag forces browsers
to use quirks mode, because you can't supply a valid doctype for
documents. Hopefully this will get fixed, as it pretty much makes the
DevNet edition worthless.

Not quite, at least according to MM:

It needs type of text/xml as well. I'm not sure why this didn't make it
into 7.

In CF6 (including 6.1) it wasn't using the 'reset' attribute that
stopped the extra META tag, it was just having a CFCONTENT tag at all,
no matter what it did. But that's gone in CF7, so if you're doing XML
generation, you have to have a non-devnet edition to test on.

Well, buy a full version of CF, of course. Don't you want to support
Macromedia and buy a CF license in addition to DevNet so you can
actually test your applications?

I'm kidding, of course.
