Good luck John !

Ciao André

For all to know, I will not be reading the list for a couple of days. My
family and myself are getting out of Dodge, oops I said the D word. We
are leaving town, running to higher ground, to get away from Hurricane
IVAN. Wish us luck in that we still have a home, in one piece, to come
home to after all is said and done. Once all this is done I hope that
Cruisin' the Coast will be just as much fun as it has for me the past
two years. Having everyone stop and talk to me about my Chevelle and
also how a lot of people say that they also had a Chevelle back when.
That to me is the most fun of all especially when you see the look in
some people's eyes when they see the car. I will be leaving it here.
locked up in a garage with the windows boarded up and covered up. Talk
 to y'all later

Good luck John! I know exactly what it feels like to be a
target of hurricanes, being a resident of coastal North Carolina. Get the hell
out of Dodge indeed, as Ivan looks like a real bad dream come true.

Good luck to you and yours. My parents
lucked out on IVAN, they live in Port Charlotte, and got hammered by the Frances. I hope the Chevelle fares well through the storm. Take care.

RE: [Chevelle-list] 69 Dash Lighting

2004-09-15 Thread Crazy Rusty

So the sockets fit right in to the back of
the 69 dash?  How were they grounded?  Have any pics? J

I just spent some time trying different
methods.  I took two metal brackets from hell and bent out the spades, then
placed them in the sockets.  I took another two metal brackets from hell and
spread some glue (albeit not the highest adhesive but pretty damn good) on the
spades and then placed them in the sockets.  I let them sit for 10 minutes.  I
came back, placed bulbs in all four sockets.  I came back in 5 minutes and
found that every single one had at least some movement (1/4 of the way out).
One of the glued ones had came all the way out and one of the bent ones came ½ the
way out (one spade completely out).

Anyone know of any aftermarket place that
makes replacement sockets?  I do not want to be afraid every time I take off my
dash bezel that I am going to lose a bulb and have to dismantle everything.
Even if the spades are glued, bent, nailed, stapled, welded, melded, etc
I would still have the thought in the back of my head.

Thanks,

JB

JD

 I have the same problem
with my 69. Some I used super glue on the spades. The ones that were real
bad, I found a wiring harness from a 75 corvette and spliced the sockets with a
length of wire on my harness.

Does anyone out that have a
sure-fire way to keep the bulbs and metal frame things from slipping out of the
black sockets? I just spent a few hours putting my dash in, taking it out
(getting the bulbs came out), putting it back in, taking it back out (getting
the bulbs that came out) , you get the picture. I was thinking of using
some contact cement on the little spade connectors that go down into the
holder. I think the bulbs fall out when that thing gets loose Any
ideas?

And if anyone know who the engineer
was who designed those things, send him my way.

Thanks,

JB

2004-09-15 Thread Slate1994
JB is it did not know it was a new harness try cutting a few links out of the spring that might help or better yet try useing alittle heat like a soldering iron heat the spring up might make it weaker, i have always rebuilt my harnesses, so i have not had the same problems you are having , it sounds like a defective sockits or poorly design one , what does the manufacturer have to say about it , im sure the person that design it never had his head under a dash before,, good luck jim
