Re: [Chevelle-list] Exhaust
Thanks for all the replies! I don't think I want glass packs on my Chevelle, but, it's a thought. I'm just afraid that the Flowmasters have become the standard sound and I would like something different. How much does header choice affect the sound vs. muffler choice? Thanks again, Mark And Chuck, I would love to take you up on your offer, if I ever make it to Chicagoland. (I'm in L.A.) Re: [Chevelle-list] What's behind the back seat?

It's part of the emission control system. The gas tank and carburetor venting were all connected together through a system of vent hoses and a charcoal canister up by the driver side fender well and the mystery canister behind the back seat. These cars were some of the first to have closed fuel system venting. I believe 1971 was the first year. Before that all tanks and carburetors were simply vented to the atmosphere. All the vent hoses from the gas tank and a hose from the charcoal canister up front converge at the mystery canister. My guess is that since it is mounted higher than the gas tank the vapors, theoretically, would collect in the canister and then be drawn back to the carburetor by a vacuum hose connected to the charcoal canister up front when the engine was running. How well it really worked I don't know. Bill Vander Werf - Original Message - From: Jimmy C.
